Am wondering if it is safe to download and install NetFramework from Microsoft as I suspect this is what may be causing me problems.
Works spreadsheet won't print and the program won't reinstall, and have an empty box in "Turn Windows features on or off". Have tried sfc\scannow, restore, disk check and Windows repair. Windows7 64 bit.

Couple of questions now to help the real experts
You say it won't print any messages, can you print a file from say Notepad or even in browser.
Have you used the printer before in W7 x64
Are there any exclamation marks on printers using Control Panel/DEvice/manager

Printer works fine and is set as default. Will print from all other programs including Works Word Processor, Notepad, Open Office and photo programs. No exclamation marks on printer icon. The printing I can work round but the blank Windows features box worries me. My start search box once turned itself off.
I went into features to turn it back on and am concerned that if that happens again I'm stuck.

NetFramework from Microsoft

This is included in Win 7 as part of the OS, are you saying you want to re-install it from MS?

@spud17. Yes. When I tried to reinstall Works I got a message about NetFramework and not having administrator rights. Have also found mention of NetFrameworks in looking for solutions to the more important problem of the Windows features. Could the files be corrupt? I've run out of other things to try. Apparently clean install does not work either. Microsoft support has a page about the features problem but as usual the advice is useless. Run sfc\scannow or system restore. First things I tried naturally.

Works 9.7. Compatible it says, no action required.

Ah yes I saw that. Sad to say I'm not sure which version to download x64 because it's Windows 64 bit or x86 for Program Files (x86)

Strike that. The brain is packing in. Will download and run, but tomorrow when I have had some sleep. Thanks for your help, I will post the results in the morning.

@debitcardmayhem. Decided to give it a go, can sleep later. Raymonds blog fixed the Windows features problem. I shall spread the good news. My thanks for the suggestion, and I am sure, those of others in the same position. The problem with Works I'm not too bothered about.
