Unknown account debit-anyone know what this is?

£38 debit from my account today from "Friends Reunited" ?? Haven't been on this website for years and when looking at the site it says it is free to use anyway. Any ideas what this is?

It might be time to check online and cancel any direct debits you no longer use.

As well as the main site they have the genealogy site and the dating site, which are not free. They tend to renew automatically until you tell them not to. They send emails beforehand, if you've kept your email address up to date.

They don't use Direct Debit, they use recurring credit/debit card payments.

The bank will say it's a guaranteed payment and there's nothing they can do about it. You'll need to contact FR and get a refund.

  • Hi, new to this site so please bear with me if I'm posting in the wrong place. I have just had membership payment of £85 taken from my bank in the form of a recurring direct debit on a credit card. The bank have informed me that they cannot cancel the DD and I have to contact the company, which is Ancestry.com. After trying for over an hour to get into the site I am unable to do so and there appears to be no way of contacting them to cancel my membership. It would seem this site no longer exists. I haven't used it for a year so even though I have my user name and password there is no way to log in. Has anyone else had this experience? What should be my next course of action? I would really appreciate any help. Thanks

Ancestry.com is the US version of Ancestry.co.uk.
When I tried https://www.ancestry.com, I got the main page up no problem. Might be worth giving your computer a quick scan with Malwarebytes in case you have picked-up a nasty.

Or you could treat the person you speak to like a human being, and politely ask them the recall the money!

You do realise that it's taken you a year to give that advice.

Totally. I saw the original quote when it was first posted, but I was so wound up it took me a year to calm down...
