  • Thanks Cardew - that's understood. I won't be pursuing that kind of measurement without decent monitoring gear (which I'll never get...) Saved me some pointless calcs.

Hi bunking_off, No cylinder - no immersion.

10/3*365*2 = 2433.3 My god! Believe it or not the other two remaining persons in the house i.e. me'n'her have showers too.... even higher. This could very well explain that between washing machine/dryer/dishwasher and shower why the usage is so high.

We're going to Homebase tomorrow and getting a mixer shower.

The next bill or two will make for interesting reading.

    Thanks guys...
  • I have had a look around forum for a calculator/spread sheet where I could input my gas and electric readings and get a costing. I do use a spread sheet I desinged myself but it is very crude
    thanks in advance

    Hi Paul,

The figures the power companies use for 'average' consumption are 20,500 kwh for gas and 3,300 kwh for electricity.

Do you know what their average house and occupancy is for these levels? Our 4 bed detached, 2 adults 2 children uses 12000 kWh for gas and 8000 for electricity. My aunt who lives with her partner in a 2 bed bungalow apparently uses 20000 kWh of gas which seems way off! Electricity seems reasonable at 3300.

Can gas meters be wrong? They did have problems with a leaking gas fire earlier in the year - nasty CO poisoning. Could that still account for such high levels? Any comments/ knowledge appreciated.
