    I've been Money Tipped!
I did this the other day before loading them into a flipcam at college to record some students - they had a great laugh as the battery flew through the air - air also turned slightly blue as I got a real shock off the darned thing - burnt my finger and drained the battery in the process - had quite a kick for such a little thing!:rotfl::rotfl:

  • That is why it doesn't work
It uses the resistance of your skin.

    No they don't.
The outside of the guage is covered in an insulating material, oherwise the battery would discharge if left somewhere with any humidity in the air.

The powercheck guage is a resistive strip stuch on the side of the battery and when you press the 2 white buttons you complete a circuit.
Depending on the state of charge of the battery, current flows through this strip (which is coated with a varying band of temperature sensitive chemicals), and as it heats up the chemicals change colour.
The higher the current flow, the more of the chemical changes colour, and so the higher the guage reads.

Those dots/strips work OK for me. It does not require a lot of pressure, gently touching the dots is all that is needed but you have to give it a few seonds for the strip to react).
Maybe all this new technology is just too complicated for some people :)

They can take a few times to get them to work properly, the fingernails trick is usually the best method. All it really is, is a copper strip that runs along the battery from positive to negative, when held correctly they make a contact, this in turn makes the strip turn yellow for indication of battery life. Of course they are not accurate, but a good indicator of a low battery.

The simplest way to check the battery power, is to put it in your device and see if it works. ;)

Haha, yeah - I was just curious to see what it would do if I followed the powercheck instructions. I was expecting a piece of the energy bar to glow brighter than the rest or something to indicate the level of charge but even after trying multiple batteries nothing happened. The batteries work fine to power my Xbox 360 controller so it must be the powercheck function which is a dud.

Oh, and the batteries weren't fake. They're just Duracells bought from a shop, so I'm assuming they're genuine, and other people who have posted have been unable to get the powercheck working either.

They can be fiddly, you have to get them just right, and its not easy, I give up testing the bar most times. They have to be pushed in really hard and your limited to just finger nails to do it as the contacts are so small.

I don't know if calling them nasty names is very helpful....but to be fair i can't get those things to work either. My husband can do it and so can my son, but when I try on the same battery I get nothing. Don't know what i am doing wrong, but the batteries are not fakes nor do i need to return them.

Just try them out in your X-box and if they work great - if not put in some new ones. It is easy really.
