Duracell Ultra batteries "powercheck" - joke?

I've just had to swap out the batteries on my Xbox 360 controller for some new ones, and in the process of doing so noticed something on the side of one of the fresh batteries. It says that if you press the two white dots on the battery it performs a 'power check' and lets you know how much energy is left in it. Cool, I thought. So I pressed the buttons. Nothing happened! I'm looking at the bar now while applying varying pressure and it isn't showing anything, just a blank bar. Is this a joke or something by Duracell? How are they allowed to advertise a function on their batteries that doesn't even work? One of the bars that is supposed to show the battery power looks like it has been drawn on, how is that supposed to change to show the energy?

Here is an image of the battery I'm referring to: http://www.techgadgets.in/images/duracell-ultra-advanced-battery.jpg

What a bunch of w*nkers.

They do work although I am not sure how accurate they are. I have a box of them at home and have tried it with a few of them now and all of them show a full bar when i hold down firmly on the 2 dots.

Might have a dud battery my friend;)

  • Try pressing the 2 dots using the tips of your fingernails. You may have to press fairly hard.

When this powercheck was used on Duracell batteries a few years ago, this was the only way to get it to work.

Its always worked for me, possibly the battery is dud?
  • Thanks for the responses guys. I've just tried it on another battery (a fresh one I'm using for the controller) and used my fingernails and it still isn't working. I'm not that bothered really, just peed off that Duracell can advertise things to pull people in when they don't even work properly. Ah, well.

The dots have been on the batteries for ages, just just a battery pack

I tried a new set of the same batteries and couldn't get any response from pressing the white spots - I did press really hard with my fingernails. They didn't power a CD player either so I'm going to take them back to the shop to get them to test them.
loose does not rhyme with choose but lose does and is the word you meant to write.

That is why it doesn't work

It uses the resistance of your skin.

Didn't this feature come in in the early 90s? used to have to push the battery into the meter on the blister pack back then, then it got moved to the battery themselves.
  • must be a bad batch of batteries. ive never known them to fail. duracell are usually very good
