  • Hiya,

Im completely new to this, but I guess this is as good a place as any to start - a challenge for an extra bit of motivation! I'm currently spending about £150 a week on my shopping for 6 of us (2 adults, 4 rugrats aged 8,5,2 and 1) plus a dog, but would like to cut this at least in half so please could you put me down for £350 for January please and i'll see how I go :o

    Thankyou,

    Hi all.
Id love to join in this. My new years resolution is to become very MSE in 2011, Organised and decluttered.

I have no idea what i spend in a month. I guess around £150 a week which seems extreme for 2 adults and 2 kids (8 & 5) and no pets. I will aim for £400 for January. The cupboards and freezer are fairly full so hopefully this should be achieveable.
Luckily there is a new little farm shop just opened up the road which does lovley cheap Veg and eggs so hopefully that should help.

    Thanks.
    Txx

  • As December is near its end Ive just applied my first Jamuary spend for tomorrow on a huge order from Asda! Approx £127!!!!!
However-Ive had the flu for 2 weeks almost and not yet over it and therefore my Christmas was c**p. I keep telling myself to be grateful that my family are around me, I live in a nice warm house(good job we got the heating done in Oct)and I will recover and can afford what I need!
The whole family are falling with it one by one and now my Ds(21)has a chest infection on top so I had to take him to local hospital tonight. BUT Im lucky-I have a car full of petrol and nearly all the snow has gone. Its my "BE GRATEFUL WEEK".
So bearing all that in mind when I get back to work there will be chaos awaiting me and my work partner(my son)has resigned and I know it will take ages to replace him. So the huge shop is because I know I will have to get back to work , make up for lost time and look after those who are now ill. Well-I try to plan! Then again-I feel so grotty that I may take one look at it and resign myself-so much for fashion retail. I really wonder if its worth the stress and so forth for the low pay we get. I feel like tightening my belt yet again and just jumping off the treadmill. Talking of treadmills-I got one from a Freecycle member this week and another member picked it up and delivered it to me in exchange for 2 jars of our honey. Now thats what I like-some old-fashioned bartering! Theres still good folk out there willing to lend a hand-sometimes we need to let them know if we are in need. Not been able to do my Avon-got deliveries in the car and new books that may never get put out but I may start bagging them up and push myself hard tomorrow to get them through doors or its money wasted. Going to trim the budget for 2011 of £5000 per year-now thats a big drop but if I aim for that and feel I can attain it I may just quit the job Im doing!
Ive found new ways to save money this year and the free treadmill means no gym fees(I gave them up 6 months ago)as really thats what I went there for. Ok-Im looking for the simple life-and an easy one - and I really think that too many people are engrossed with high value material goods. Im happy to have what I need as opposed to a long list of wants which are meaningless in the longterm. I have what I need so I just need to tickover.
Annual Grocery budget 2018 is £1500 pa £125 calendar month £28.84 pw for 3 adults

    Morning peeps :hello:

i`ve hardly had time to post this month so i need to do a bit of catching up methinks :p

My December challenge has ended and my January challenge started on Christmas day :D I`ll check my next payday date so that i can sort out the budget as i`m a bit behind atm.

I would like to declare £206.82 for December please MrsM and £29.99 for the pets.

Just a bit over on the food for us and quite a bit under for the pets so i`m happy:j

I shall tally up my annual spend over the weekend, i`ve noticed that its quite a bit more than last year which isn`t surprising considering the stupid prices that food seems to be these days, think that i shall have to grow more in the garden this year!

    Happy shopping gang!

Planning on starting the GC again soon :p

... Could I please join the January 2011 grocery challenge ... Please put us in for £250 for January ...

Hi cat_smith, Kazsaver, NewlyFrugalMumof3, Leeds1947, fingersxed, closemead and any other newbie I've missed. :hello:

Welcome to the thread and good luck with your challenges for 2011! :T

If you edit your post, highlight the amount of your challenge then put your cursor up to the arrow for the drop down list by the side of the font name, select '4'. Then (with text still highlighted) click the arrow next to the capital 'A' to drop down colours for text, select red and they should then look like the quotes above that I took from your posts (sorry can only multiquote three at a time. :o).

That way your new challenges will be highly visible for MrsMcCawber :A who is the star that keeps the list of challengers names and amounts up to date.

Angelatgraceland, you really have had a bit of a time of it of late, haven't you. I hope you feel better soon. :grouphug: You do have a fantastic outlook though both in terms of your 'Be grateful week' and your desire to live as simply as possible. I wish you all the very best for the New Year and hope you can get to where you want to be.

Well, no more shopping here so I'm fairly sure we're well on target for coming under this month. I'm not counting my chickens or my funds until Friday though! :naughty:

I'm not really sure what I'm going to do today. I did promise myself a reassessment of finances so I may do that, or I may just chill with a book or the telly. Hmmm, decisions, decisions, ...

Anyway, I'll be back later no doubt so take care and see you then.

    All the best,
    Spigs

Hey all,, i pretty much flaked out of this month's budget as my month was so disrupted! i've also temporarily lost my past GC data as i lost my sig but don't have my receipts to hand :(
I'll probably start the month with a small tesco online order, it's £2.40 in bus fare or £3 delivery though i only want a few bits! Bit of a pain :( I may try asda instead but they don't have some of the hard to get things I want.
I'm currently making a list/mock order and doing a bit of meal planning (what i can do with a 400g of stewing steak or a chicken etc)

Think I'll do the same again this year, so would you put me down for £360 please
    Good luck everyone
