  • My hubby just stopped at our local market on the way to work and bought our turkey for £18 which isn't too bad as far as turkeys go.

Can I be added to the January thread please with a target spend of £300

I agree - I think my turkey crown (from W8trose) cost £17! Managed to finish my shopping yesterday very early and went into work late. Then after work I had to collect my MIL and take her to Sainsbugs - she wouldn't just give me a list to do it for her. It was fairly manic but she managed to get most of what she wanted and we didn't fall over in the carpark!

I am seriously thinking about doing an annual budget next year. I have been keeping a spreadsheet of annual spends anyway and have this year and the previous two to compare. I spent more this year partly because I had my DD1 home for three months but I agree prices have gone up. I hadn't thought about the VAT increase affecting toiletries and stuff though. Hm, something to mull over. I might do a late shopping trip tomorrrow before they all close to see if ther are any reduced bargains to be had - on the other hand I might just stay indoors in the warm!

We are away visitng DD1 (weather permitting) in Germany from 28th so will start my new year budget when we return on 2nd Jan and do a big shop on 3rd. Catch up with you all then.

  • Can I ask those of you who do Tesco/Morrisons/Asda/Sainsburys savings stamps throughout the year how you find it?

I was thinking perhaps next year each week I go to the supermarket I will add X amount onto a savings card for the christmas shop/gifts in the supermarkets but wasnt sure how well these kind of cards actually work out. In my mind its more that I wont "see" or miss the money like I would if I had to physically remove the money from our bank account and put it in a pot or a savings account as it would be like part of the grocery. Does that make sense lol.

    Thank you.

I met my dad and stepmum for lunch yesterday and my dad and I went and did a bit of shopping beforehand. My dad wouldn't let me pay for my bits....grr!! We're all as stubborn as each other!

So, thank you daddy for my eggs, flour, naan bread mix, toothpaste and mince pies (and of course, a very yummy lunch of fish and chips) :)

I did A$DA savings card for this Christmas, and I saved £300. I shop there every week and I saved, on average, £5 a week, sometimes more or less. I will def do it again as I has meant December/ Christmas has been MUCH easier. There are only two of us,and we dont drink alcohol, but I used my savings for a lot of my presents, as well as Christmas food. I know you can get a better return saving elsewhere, but I find the discipline of putting physical money away every week means I'm not tempted to dip into it. I also dont notice it once i got into the habit of doing it every week. It works for me, so I'm happy! I would recommend it. HTH!
