I also said they weren't any more expensive which they are not over the course of the tyres. If they wear better in the winter than your regualr tyres (don't know what you have) then it may actually cost you less over the next few years.
So there you go - MSE advice....
Cheaper then not getting paid... No, that is true.
I know it is not more expensive over the course of the life of tyres, it is kind of obvious, but question is whether it is worth it to get them (as otherwise I won't need new tyres for some time).
My car has done 8k miles from new so as you can imagine the thread on the current tyres is quite good.
Does it make that big difference when driving? When driven in Eastern Europe with winter tyres (quite few years ago that) in past, I don't remember ever worrying about getting stucked. But not sure whether that was because their roads are also properly treated.
What if I put winter tyres just on front wheels?0 -
Part worn winter tyres with at least 5mm tread are a great help try german tyre warehouse (google it or they are also on ebay)
Why you should fit them all round

Thiss one shows probably what more likely to find in lot of part of UK with black ice rather than snow on roads

Drive really slowly and you should be OK,
Drive to take advantage of the traction the winter tyres will give you on the front and the back becomes the weak link and you could well end up heading backwards toward an accident.
I’d really strongly suggest getting all four if at all possible, lots of part worns on ebay for £100 for 4, if you are really lucky you might even find a set complete with wheels to suit your car which is a significant saving as tyre places seem to charge £10 to swap a tyre these days0 -

£10 a tyre to swap??
I didn't think it would be more then £20. It takes them about half an hour.
I doubt I will be driving more then 5mph... that is the speed the traffic did this morning;-)
I will have a look at the prices.0 -
Unfortunately tyre places are faced with the same rising costs as everybody else and have to make up the difference some how.0

Potentially lethal. I have done all-seasons and summer which is alright, but would not go any further. If you genuinely need winter tyres, then get 4.
On tyre changing and fitting costs- certainly with valve, balance and disposal anything from £10 to £20 a corner. My usual place is £12, but only place that could do it at my times was £20 a corner. Ce La Vie.0 -
Not that much choice on Ebay once you put in specific size...
£155 for 4 is the best, part worn
OH calling local garage to find out how much for fitting.
Thanks guys0 -

I don't know what do you mean?0 -
Rubber snow chains? I've never heard of them before!!
My car is front wheel drive.. What if I get snow tyres fitted just on front?
Half the cost.. And I probably can manage to store just 2 tyres...
Stupid idea, because before you know it the back end of the car will be swinging around, you'll spend the morning merged with a tree, and the afternoon with the undertaker.0 -
So it is safer to have just summer tyres then 2 winter tyres and 2 summer tyres..0
