The lay bet is the one in the pink box. Try looking for matches tomorrow otherwise your money will be tied up for several days.

You'll get quicker replies in the Newbie thread :)

This is probably more like it:
I place £10 at willhill for spurs to beat MK Dons at 1.40
I also place a £10 Lay bet on the same result at betfair at 1.44.

Winning at willhill would get me £14.
Winning at betfair would get me £14.44 (minus any percentage that i haven't worked out)

    Is this correct?

You know, last night I kind of regretted posting this as I thought I'd unwittingly started an unnecessary argument about MB but I've just logged on to find all these other people getting the idea too and so much help from more experienced MBers. Well done everyone- I'll be joining you all in the newbie thread just as soon as my payslip hits my desk:D

Im glad you posted and the thread took off as yes i was mildly curious as to what match betting was but until i read this post last night i did nt think much more about it, but now im slowly waiting for my mind to catch up then having a go at it myself once im sure i understand.......i think the argument came about as the poster really could nt see past the term betting(not really wrong i suppose but a)it was nt right to try to force views and b)maybe a lack of knowledge of what it really is just caused the frustration....

I for one am not a gambler and i feel ill if i lose two pounds at any forming of gambling... coupled with very large debts i owe i have no qualms about giving it a go when i feel i understand enough....i see this match betting as possible much needed extra money coming in for my family and whilst i accept that some people could be swayed to gamble via being introduced to match betting i feel its something that they would do anyway ...

good luck and thanks for kicking the post off:T

I know EXACTLY what you mean. I've placed 2 bets on the grand national in my whole life and have never played a fruit machine. I even resent any money I play on the national lottery as I've never even won a tenner so I see it as a waste of money (but I'm in the work syndicate as I couldn't bear everyone else in the office celebrating a big win that I wasn't part of). This whole concept is alien to me and it's taken a lot for me to understand all the terminology for a start.

Good luck to you too and I'll be seeing you over on the newbies thread when we get going :D

    Well done Mrs Sparkle

I'm there but worried about charges to debit cards for gambling  Or is that only credit cards?

There are no charges for using debit cards except at a tiny number of bookies. When there is a charge it will be stated in the bookie's terms and conditions.

The only reason there are charges with credit cards is that some treat gambling transactions as cash withdrawals.
