Bear in mind you also agree to keep it online for 12 months, it's also up in the air if it's breaking your T&C's. After you order you will not be able to track the order until it arrives, the only think you will know is you'#ve paid via paypal.

Fon's support is terrible too, (I know from experience) so unless your pretty comfortable doing your own IT support it may not be for you. Repies (if at all) will take a few days.

It's a great concept but the implementation at the moment is shakey to say the least.
  • My understanding is that this is a wireless access point (WAP) and not a router. So the add is misleading

    Can anybody clarify something?

I have a cable modem with one Ethernet port, which my compuer connects to via a hardwire connection.

I've been looking at their FAQs and as far as I can tell I won't be able to use the use the FON 'router' with my computer unless I get a wireless card for it. The router only has one 'internet' port as they call it. So if I connect the router to my modem I assume I have no ports left for my computer?

Can anybody who's got one tell me if I've got this right?

    Thanks,

    Nick.

This device isn't a router - it is a wireless access point (WAP).

This won't work in your setup as the WAP will use the IP address given by the cable modem and you are left with no free addresses.

If you want a router, you need to look at "broadband wireless routers" or similar - i.e. a non-ADSL router:

    Thanks

[EDIT: Just noticed this on "Grabbit" board which is a router: http://cpc.farnell.com/jsp/endecaSearch/partDetail.jsp?SKU=SB0283705&N=0

which I suspect is this router from the model number:

Plug the cable modem into the WAN port and your PC into a LAN port. If you want to connect wirelessly you need a wireless adapter for each PC if it doesn't have one built-in already. ]
