It has been mentioned that girls are cheaper to insure than boys. That wont be the case if the EU get their way, they want to outlaw gender as a criteria for car insurance.
If this goes through I would bet a pound to a penny that costs for a girl will rise to those for boys rather than a fee in between the two.IT Consultant in the utilities industry specialising in the retail electricity market.

I just wouldn't pay that money and use public transport and the occasional taxi and not go out as much. That's how the premium is these day for young males.
My 1st policy on my own for a 1.6 corolla was £700 TPFT at 20 years old over a decade ago. So I guess it wasn't so bad then, now it's £330 full comp for a 1.3 yaris before cashback. Would probably have been around the £250 had insurance hasn't gone up by 20% this year.0 -
My insurance was £1600 last march, I expect admiral will increase it come renewal time, I'm likely going to go with another company anyway though and hopefully can bring it down abit.0

The mention of registered keeper and main driver for insurance purposes is utter tosh ,when it's done correctly NOT when done as fronting
I have 3 cars registered in my name
My car
Wife's car
daughters car
all registered on the log book in my name
Insurance states and is noted on policy (multi car )
My car ,me as main driver ,wife occasional driver ,daughter never
wife's car has her as main driver ,she does school run ,shopping etc. ,me as occasional driver ,daughter never
Daughter's car ,HER as main driver ,wife and myself occasional ,she drives to college ,work etc. and we bring car home until it's time to pick her up and then she drives
It's also noted on wife and daughters policy that they are NOT registered keeper of the vehicle's
Insurance company happy with all that0 -
I also know for fact that a different person can be the registered owner to the main driver on the insurance.
but for you to do that you cannot use internet quotation companies as you have to be registered keeper and going to be the main driver, what you have to do is physically call them up and one of the question they ask you is are you the registered owner/keeper, now that doesnt mean they will insure you under thoes circumstances, but if they dont another will be able to.
but it does make it easier and increases your chance of finding better deals if you are going to be the named driver and you are the registered owner.0 -

changed my car insurance to LV which cost me about extra £200
then insured the fiesta for my son as main driver with me and my partner as occasional drivers, £1800.
2 days after all this sorted the front suspension colapsed on one side! £106 for repair.
son now thinks he needs to get a job cos i refuse to pay for petrol.
im using reverse psychology, letting him see how good it is to drive and be free, then im going to stop the insurance and threaten to sell the car if he doesnt do something!!
watch this space!!!

Like others have said
A 1.4 Fiesta is too fast for a 17yr old lad just passing his test.
I hate to say it but a 1.0 litre Micra is going to be much beter for him. It's probably one of the cheapest cars to run and insure. It may destroy his street cred big time though but i'm sure the ability to be driving and save money will out weigh the image of driving a Micra
G reg 1.2 Nissan Micra got me moving at 19. I was the worst, most inconsiderate and vile driver on the road. everytime i accelerated blue smoke billowed out the back, it was white with a brown interior. The stereo was defeaningly loud. i was constantly racing my front grill everywhere.
my third party insurance was £1200... the car was worth £50 at most... i got a years no claims and then got £600 fully comp. then i blew the engine on it.
get him a 1.0litre shed. it might be a little bit cheaper to insure, and it wont be as powerful as a 1.4. I dont care what anyone says, there are few lads who pass their test and dont drive like w. anchors everywhere, very few. im of the opinion the minimum driving age should be upped to 21... in part due to how i just flipped once i got my pink licence... i didnt calm down until i was 20/210 -
why on earth has he got a 1.4? silly move!
im 19 have a 1.2 and am with elephant they are fab do not go with quinn/quinndirect as when he needs to make a claim they squeeze as much as they can. elephant also price match with admiral and a couple of others (they are all under written by the same company? i think ) also a lot of companys say they give you back money for pass plus if pp is £160 for 6 hrs you get about £200 back is it really worth it?0
