The thing is, the margin on a £2000 telly is pretty damn small, pretty negligible...
How come Richer Sounds manages to sell the same telly for £100's cheaper with a 5 year warranty included?0 -

No More expensive than any other shops offering the same products, hence the low margin on a lot of products
But still MUCH more expensive than you can buy the same items for online, even <£100 items are generally £20, £40 or more cheaper online where you also get MUCH STRONGER consumer protection, particularly DSR regs.
Frankly with generic electrical stuff I'm suprised anyone buys from large shops like that any more
- the repair costs / process / diagnostics [ Currys/PC World ] are somewhere between non existent and downright disingenuous
Yes, some things are over priced (Data Transfer @ £30-) However, do you know how long it actually takes to do a full OS Install in a shop environment? Including all of the drivers? Making everything work as it should? It can take quite some time, hence the price is higher
Hardly any time where you have the efficiencies of being able to do a number of machines simultaneously and can do other things in the dead time' while the OS is being copied.
Don't make us laugh by claiming PC world are competent to install drivers correctly... do a forum search
- every repair, even a 50p CMOS battery replacement starts with the cost of a new motherboard
No, a new CMOS Battery is what it costs, if you want us to fit it we need to be insured, we aren't insured if we don't charge, what if something was to happen that damaged the computer, where would we stand?
lol, does that position assumes that the finances and scale of PC worlds operations are sufficiently shaky they aren't able to self insure such work? Further you imply that competently repairing a computer damaged in a situation above would be expensive for them... because the staff involved are not competent to attempt something like that themselves and would have to pay someone competent from another organisation to fix their mess?

You'd have to be a bit of a numpty to cause much damage to a PC when changing a CMOS battery....
Oh hang on, now I can see why PCW tech staff would need to be insured for that after all...:DNo free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Its well known about their changing of motherboards. It really should be made illegal:idea:0

dont be fooled. its well known that a few big companies have been hard selling the expensive hdmi cables.
i'm more than happy with the cheap ones and really can't tell a difference between expensive ones.
in fact i used my £5 promotional PCW / Currys voucher on a Playstation3 accessories pack that consisted of an HDMI lead, control pad 'triggers' and a USB to mini USB cable for charging the controllers.
All of that was only £5 anyway...0
