Did this guy have her card as well, or did he have a counterfeit one? In which case, is he regular thief? I'm not sure how he could easily access her account with just pin if he was just a chancer. If it's obviously him, surely it must be fairly easy for police to track him with CCTV at ATMs now if she knows which one it was he made the withdrawal from? Sorry if I've missed something, but there do seem to be a lot of unanswered points here.0

You need more than just a pin to rob an account like a card with the account number and sorting code on or the 16 digit pan number.
Did he get this from looking over her shoulder as well??
I'm with the other posters on this it smells fishy and if it was up to me I would certainly not refund her account.0 -

The op said that her friend couldnt find the card. So her "friends" "friend" must have pinched it, saw her pin number and emptied the account.0 -
Then there should be no trouble in telling the police the name and address of said person.0
