I have a signing day and a dental check-up fall at the same time next week, no prizes for guessing which one I have rescheduled.

When it comes to the DWP I am a great believer in not giving them a stick to beat you with.

Hi I have a JSA sign in this Tuesday, however I'm not able to make it for the sign in. I'm going to London tomorrow for few days, Will the job centre take this into consideration and arrange another date?? are they quite strict this way??

Nope you wont be able to say that, my partner was going on holiday and he was advised that he wouldnt be able to claim.

Try calling the morning of your appointment and say your ill.

You can ask to sign in London for the day, provide proof of the job interview and it shouldn't be an issue
  • Im not sure about going away for a few days but i had a hospital app and they where ok with me signing on late. I had told them beofre and had proof of the app. You can sign on late and then you payment will be late but you cant sign early. Also if you dont tell they may stop you signing alltogether.

I live up north but often job hunt down south. Last time I signed on (for 2 weeks) for my first signing session I was in London looking after a relative's dog and house while they were away on holiday, but that I was job-hunting too.

I told my advisor this (they were also trying to get me booked on a course to help me with job hunting, so that got delayed) and they were fine. Maybe it was because they'd seen from when I'd been unemployed a while back that all my interviews were down south. Signing date was moved, advisor told me to fill out a holiday form as it was too much hassle to try and sign-on in London. Maybe it's at the advisor's discretion... she was the nicest advisor I'd ever seen mind you, got me on a great course that I'd have killed for when I was out of work for ages previously... despite asking I'd got nothing before.

You can sign on in a different job centre, I did it a few times, once was for job hunting and once when visiting family. You need to let your local job centre know and get a form to sign on wherever you're staying - they will then send this through to your local jobcentre who will process your payment. Be prepared for a long wait at the new job centre as they wouldn't let me make an actual appointment there as it wasn't my local centre and had to wait around until someone could fit me in.

You seem the think the jobcentre are tripping you up.

Firstly you can declare a trip away and sign a few days late. You need to decide are you on holiday or are you going to look for work?

Holiday- Fill in holiday form you will be booked into jobcentre for your return and then provided normal intervention completed and accepted paid benefit as normal all be it a bit late.(but!! you must notify then before you go)

Going away for job interview- You may be eligible for funding to get to London and back- you will need proof of job interview so speak to employer explain you may be eligible for some travel costs so could he put interview details in writing and e0mail to you. You will then sign, as above, on your return. You could ask the job centre if they will accept ES90 action and you would then be eligible to sign on in London. You will need to take proof into London of all the employers you have seen and job search activity.

    Ask at your local office.

Exactly! The first chance they get, they will suspend your benefit.

    Don't give them the chance.
