Probably a straight yes or no answer but cannot seem to find the answer on gov website.
Can you claim ESA if you are disabled, unable to work but living with a partner who earns £25k a year?
thanks

Bear in mind that not all the questions on the ESA claim form will apply to you if you're claiming Contribution Based ESA.0
-
As stated, only about 24 of the pages will apply if you claim ESA(C), and of those the majority are Yes/No answers that dont apply to people and require no further information.
I'm not saying that the OP did this, but people who whinge about the form, they must be educationally sub-normal. Its an absolute breeze.0 -
thats great thanks guys. TBH havent looked at the form properly yet, but didnt fancy printing it all off either on my SLOOOOOOW printer. Might give the Job center a call in the morning start if off from there. shouldnt have any trouble doing it. Well I would hope not I worked in goverment finance for 4 years!
But the Child tax credits forms still sometimes baffle me, the way they word things sometimes.Happy days

ESA claims can be taken in full over the phone so that is probably your best bet. The form cannot get lost etc.thats great thanks guys. Hi,
Sorry I have to comment on this.
Yes it is a damn good idea to make a claim over the phone for that reason.
However it does depend on the quality of the staff that input the info onto the form for you.
Mine was so ridiculous (saying that I was wrong age, when the illness started etc etc) that I had to write to the DWP and tell them to ignore it as the info on it when I received my copy, looked like I was telling a whole load of porkies!!!!!!
I filled another ESA1 in by hand and posted it!!0 -

There is a bit where it states what date someone started using their name - this date bears no relation to the date of birth but people seem to confuse that.
The date of the illness is pretty irrelevant. The only time it is relevant is to a ESA(Y) claim.
You wasted your time filling in another ESA1.0 -
Not sure if this is the best way but just completed it online - took a whole 10 mins. But got a reference number and also got to properly explain my condition in my own words. it says someone is going to call me back tomrrow to discuss the details. so at least I have the basics online.Happy days

Hi,
Yes that was part of it. There was another part that ended up saying that my illness started the same date I started working and that I was receiving Ind Injury payments!
Could you tell me what the ESA (Y) is please - I have never heard of it.
Not really, they did cancel the telephone claim and waited for the one I posted because of what I had said about it being wrong when I telephoned them.
That was one of the reasons that caused a long delay in getting my intial payments - it took over 8 weeks for the first payment to arrive.0
