Getting ready for the Olympics

Hello - I am not in control and it's time that I was. So having looked at a couple of DFW diaries I am hoping, that with your help, I can grab my life by the xxxxx give it a bit of a shake and hope that some loose change falls out of the pockets.
I will admit that I feel a bit guilty even posting on here, because having done an SOA (posted in the main forum under the heading "Maybe it's not so bad after all") I have realised that in comparison to many people I am indeed very fortunate - my debts comprise of my mortgage, a bank loan for windows, and a loan from a "friend" which is interest free and can be paid back "whenever"
However the "friend" is somebody who, at this point in time, is not good for my soul, and as such I would like to remove this debt asap.
In addition, I am vastly overweight, and due to various things that have happened and currently happening in my life, have been on anti-depressants for the past few years. This is not helped by the office I work in currently undergoing a 90 day consultation for closure, thus having worked there for the past 17 years may shortly face the prospect of having to go back out to a job market which is vastly different to the last time I was out there.
The depression (along with other health issues I have) has also affected my pride in myself and my environmnt - I am a complete and utter slob. And always too tired to do anything about it - this has to change.
So by the time the Olympics comes round I will be in a completely different place, but I know it's not going to happen overnight, so am making an early New Year's resolution, to turn my life around.
I have lots of ideas, but think I've put quite enough for now.

Thank you beanielou - later on I shall sit down and work out a signature. But now I'm cold so to save putting the heating on, I shall go and do some ironing - that way I save on the heating (although I still need to pay electricity for the iron) and will also tackle that slob attitude that I have.0

You are hardier than me.

Well I've done a little bit of ironing, and might have to resort to the heating in a while. I have ordered a free energy saving plug, I have signed up for a new gas and electricity supplier via one of the links on here - changing from dual fuel British Gas to EDF fixed tariff til December 2011. Supposedly will get £34 reward for using the site, and also £100 back on the bills. And I should have written down how much they estimated I would save over the course of the year, but forgot. Never mind I can try and save/pay off debt with what is saved each month. I have a feeling that it was about £200 a year, but even it's only £5 a month, that's £5 I didn't have before.
I do still have a couple of payments to make on stuff I bought on QVC on easypay - but it's all craft related stuff, so I will be able to be creative for presents and stuff. So in theory, that will be money saved for not buying cards and gifts, but does it count if I've spent so much on the equipment? Hell yes it counts because I'm looking forward, not backwards.
Also signed up for the sealed tin challenge. So I will make my son drink all the coffee in the house so that I can use the jars. Oooh I'm quite excited.0 -

Just popping in to say hello and wish you lots of luck on your way. Keeping a diary is a fab way of staying focused
I'd agree with you in focusing on the loan to friend if they are not good for your soul....been there, although it was the person that owed me thousand and it was easier to pay the debts than have the hassle of them in my life. Still paying for it now buy hey life goes on!
Have subscribed so will pop in and see how you are getting on.

Thanks for the support folks - I've just been in my son's bedroom and found a huuuuuuge pile of loose change so I've text him and asked him if I can have it for the start of my sealed pot challenge - he said yes. He's such a lovely boy. I think i shall have one communal one so that we can put it towards Christmas treats.
When I've counted it I shall post in the Sealed pot thread.0 -

Well done Choc on your weight loss journey
So what have I done since yesterday
I signed up for YouGov survey site and did a survey
I booked half day off work to try and get a couple of things sorted
I went to the Building Society and checked my insurance with them - turns out that it will not kick in unless I have enforced redundancy, which is what I thought, but half hoped that there might be discretion in it so that if the office closes, and redundancy is inevitable, that it would pay if I went sooner rather than later. Glad I know for certain.
- mobile phone company - cannot do anything at the moment, but they gave me the dates when I am eligible to upgrade/downgrade and the end of the contract so I shall write them in the diary - one is in February, one in May.
- rang Council, it was suggested to me by a colleague that instead of having the "break" in Feb and March, it could be Dec and Jan - so I asked, and they won't do that, but they will stretch the payments out so I pay half each month for the next 4 months
I also went to the library and took out 4 books - 2 on CV writing and 2 on personal finance (already have Martin's books), one of which I have read before and seems to make quite a lot of sense.
I have also made a commitment to finish the Key Skills part of my Customer Services NVQ level 3 by 14 Dec.
And I haven't spent any money at all, so I still have £20 in my purse.:A0
