Thanks again folks, it looks as if oldagetraveller got mixed up between the Yaris and the Auris. Picking it up on Friday if the weather permits, paid deposit, some part exchange and some on Barclaycard. Now looking for the best deal with balance transfers with 0% so we can pay it back over the next year.
We have to have an auto as my wife suffers from back problems and looses feeling in her left leg from time to time. The mpg look much better than our current 1.9dci automatic Scenic.
  • You might want to do some heavy traffic and close manouevering in it, but too late now you've bought it.

I've driven nearly every automated manual car there is and i wouldn't give you a thankyou for one personally though lots of people like them, but the very best of luck with it anyway.

Luckily being a Toyota you won't be dumped by the maker the instant the warranty runs out like some, i assume it's full Toyota history, keep it that way when warranty is out too for a couple of years and you'll find Mr T stands by his product.

No he didn't:p. The French connection was mentioned directly after the sentence re owning a MMT Toyota - and yes, a Yaris.;) Sorry if that caused confusion.

I agree with G & S, and you'll find it's kept in M all the time for your own sanity and that of drivers behind you! In E mode it really is that bad however driven. It does help if the change can be anticipated by easing off the throttle pedal at the same time. A change can also be "encouraged" by easing off the throttle. The problem is the gearchange occurs at such random moments anticipation is virtually impossible. Have fun going up an incline in E, or negotiating a roundabout, I'd wager you change to M then - you'll find out eventually! A three miles drive is not enough to fully evaluate the MMT, that was the mistake i made and should have insisted on an extended period.
I sincerely hope you like the car though in spite of the MMT and no further problems materialise with you wife's back when the car lurches forward during a gearchange..

Thanks again for the comments. We only used E for the test drive as that is the mode my wife will drive it in. It seemed fine on hills and the kick down was smooth. Liked the hold on the hill start which stops rolling back, wish I had that when I did my driving test! The Scenic auto box has got us used to unpredictable changes, plus rev increases at the wrong moment so hope the Auris won't have any nasty surprises.
Thanks for the reassurance, G&S, I had heard that Toyota were one of the better manufacturers.
I have just found out that the 2007 Auris had a recall for a steering bush so I will ring the garage I am buying from to get this checked. Should this be recorded in the service book?

Did you check they'll take a credit card payment? A lot wont because of the extra cost to them, unless you negotiated it as part of the deal.

But highly reliable, well proven system. ;)

But 2/3rds the fuel economy and twice the tax...... Would the op have bought that car if it only did 35mpg and cost £200 to tax?

Anyhow - he's bought it now, driven it and liked it and not had any problems with the gearchange. Maybe he's just a better driver than some :p

Thanks frothey, As my wife gets free disabled car tax that is not a problem, the little, 1.4 diesel seems frugal so should equal the mpg of our current Smart and Scenic. Now that we are poor pensioners gone from two to one car!!!!!!
Already paid the deposit with Barclaycard so should be OK.
Will report back on the driving experience when we have owned and driven it for a couple of weeks.
Impressed with the Honda main dealer we are buying from, it has just been through their workshop for pre-delivery checks where they decided to replace brake pads and a tyre. Will find out why, maybe tracking, hope we get to the garage, snow has settled again overnight.

Not sure where you got those figures from, they are wrong.
