At present I am on IS, and DLA obviously due to my disability.
I have seen a 16 week course that I have always wanted to do which is 2 hours one day a week at the local college starting at the end of January.
Would benefits allow me to do this course or is it not allowed?
Thanks in advance.

A course with such a low attendance requirement should be perfectly allowable as long as it doesn't conflict with the reason you claim DLA.
The favourite example is taking a fitness course when you're claiming high rate mobility.0 -
Apparently the rules changed sometime last year and IS claimants are not allowed to do full-time study even if they are in receipt of DLA. The claim would close and you would need to claim ESA instead - that is assuming your IB isnt payable.
I'll check this up and see if I can find the DMG guidance on the subject.0 -

Thanks for the replies.
The course is only 2 hours per week and doesn't contradict my disability at all.
Losing the bulk of my income rules it out anyway.Wow, I got 3 *, when did that happen :j:T:p

2 hours doesnt necessarily mean that it isnt full-time but probably unlikely to be classed as that.I_know_my_ABC_and_my_CMYK wrote: »Thanks for the replies.

Probably didn't need to know but there are often different rules depending on disability i.e. deaf/blind are sometimes able to claim benefits which people with other disabilities are not able to.
I'd speak to the college to see if it's classed as a FT or PT course.
What level is the course at?
If it's a PT course it's probably ok, if it's classed as FT you'd need to speak to your IS advisor to see if they'll accept it as PT anyway due to the hours involved.
DLA will be unaffected providing your care/mobility needs have not changed.0
