Pre paid cards in hotels

I'm trying to book a hotel in Paris but they all seem to be saying I have to have a valid credit card for use when I get there. If I buy a pre paid one will that suffice? I understand that the pre paid ones are for electronic use only as they don't have the raised numbers.

I think the issue is more that a credit card can be billed with any outstanding hotel charges, whereas a prepaid card is only good for whatever you have previously funded it with, so they won't accept it.
I believe it's the same with car hire.0 -
And if you do use a pre-paid card on check-in, the hotel with hold an amount of cash on your card to offset against incidental charges - you will not get this to spend until the hold is released, maybe some days after you leave.0
