The other thing that comes to mind is that the pony may not even be worth £1000! All depends on age, ability, bombproof, previous health/injury etc etc.

Aye? Why does a pony need to be bombproof? What do you use them for, Minesweeping?
  • traffic or aircraft is a big problem with nervous horses !! especially for not overly confident riders or beginners. May seem extreme .. to non riders out there, but i grew up on a farm ..and it was important for my parents sanity, as i did use to go out on my own or with my friends on thier ponies, that the pony or horse i had wasnt going to be freaked out if i were riding in a field when a tractor or low flying airplane went over.

My friend sort of inherited a pony from a riding school, it had barely been riden outdoors and was a freaky nightmare on country lanes ! A car alone would set the bloomin thing off into a bolt. thankfully she was an experienced rider.

Does having a pony mean she won't need riding lessons? I would have thought that she would need them all the more in order to be safe. Unless she has an experienced rider who will teach her for free?
May all your dots fall silently to the ground.

The other party is a qualified instructor, and to be honest, we were going to ask her for lessons anyway.

The pony itself, came from a family with 4 (yes 4 girls) who have had him for 4/5 years. Again, the pony is well know to our partner and she has no issues with his upbringing (is this the correct equine word, I'm going to have to start learning)

Wit regards to the other issues, I'm going to have a word with her husband and come to some formal arrangment over the finances.

I would be more concerned that my other half had gone ahead and spent all that money without consulting me first!
Absolutely agree! We have an arrangement in this house where as if it is anything over a certain amount we will both sit down and discuss first 1) is it necessary, 2) can we live without it?/buy it cheaper, etc and then make a united decision!!
Take all her credit cards, ability to use money off her and give her spending money only! x
