Hi_JCDerby - Lot's of comment about what BG Can, Can't or May do, but in the end if BG don't sort this muddle out, you will be the one who's disconnected

Phone calls have not worked and you have recieved bills in your name. So sort this NOW by writing a letter headed Complaint -Just like that in bold caps- listing the history. It should stop the problem dead, but even if it does'nt and BG do their worst, with this letter on file you have them by the B*alls

why would i be attending court for a case that doesnt involve me?

If they do apply for a warrant of entry to your property they will write giving notice of this. I would definitely attend Copurt and make it clear to the Judge that you live in the property, have no connection with the person they are looking for, he no longer lives there etc.

As TOrtOise basically said above if you don't attend & the judge isn't given all of the facts by the supplier (the person attending for the supplier may or may not know that you've said the person billed no longer lives there) he may grant a warrant based on what is presented. In turn you may come home one day and find they've broken into your home (with warrant) and fitted you a pre payment meter.

As I & Dogshome said above a letter of complaint is something you should write asap.

    Good luck

Definitely get into contact with everyone to explain the situation.

I had something similar 15-ish years ago when I moved house ... person in the house we were buying was keen to move quickly as she was moving to a new job elsewhere and everything for our purchase was going ok until at the last minute the buyers of my flat announced that their solicitor hadn't done anything yet and in any case they'd decided to reduce their offer by 20%. Needless to say the move fell through. About 3-4 months later we had another buyer and house we wanted was still for sale so we picked up from where it had been and move went through ... however on moving in I found a huge pile of utility bills in my name, final demands, notice of court cases and in one case a county court judgment - the previous owner had phoned up all the utilities when she moved to her new job saying she was leaving and gave my name as the new owner. Took these along to my solicitor who took one look at them, said "this is serious" and immediately started phoning - turned out the with the county court judgement I was still just within the time limit to put in a retrospective defence (basically "my client was not owner of the property at this time") and got it all sorted out.
  • spoke to Bg once again and explained this and the crossed meter situation that we have with next door (same company) and it appears they were trying to bill for next doors supply anyway. lol
So once the meters have all been allocated correctly we shall see whether we have any further correspondance. Will tell the next door neighbour to watch out for this!
  • If you've already complained and its not resolved you can proceed to the Ombudsmen. If that doesn't work sue them for harassment :)
