Notice of disconnection previous owner!British Gas
Options
After over 2 years of living in our property, and continually getting bills and letters for the builders company (who have now been dissolved).
We have sent many of those back in the post and even phoned them and told them over the phone several times. We have now received a letter with no return address, which is a notice of disconnection and a notice that a collections agency will be calling to collect the outstanding bill.
Firstly do i need to worry about being disconnected, BG said that i dont, but as they have continually messed up the bill for the 2 years we have lived here im not convinced.
Further to that, am i really going to have the embarrasment of bailiffs?Collection agency visiting my house?

Unless you are receiving bills in your name the answer is Yes you should be worried. Give them a call and make sure they have all your details from the date you moved in and the meter reads. They will then close down the accounts in the builders names.
Returning bills without saying you are the new occupier is a pain for suppliers but as you have been calling them check that they have a record of this.Self Employed, Running my Dream Jobs0 -
If your meter is outside you could have a problem.
If it's inside they won't be able to disconnect it unless you let them in. You do not have to do so without them obtaining a warrant of entry. At their attempt to do that you could present your objections to the judge & he will not grant it for someone else debt.
Either way write to the company in the meantime rather than telephone them, head it complaint etc.
Should any debt collector / baliff turn up in the meantime just tell them to leave your property. Without Court orders they can't do anything if you don't let them in - which you most certainly should not. Do not leave doors or windows open for them to gain any form of entry by either.0 -

I have done all of your above recommendations several times over the past 2 years and continually been told that they have to send the bills out as its procedure. Most of the bills that had a return address on we returned with no longer living here on them as well.0 -

Try the complaints number 0800 072 8632I always wanted to be a procrastinator, never got round to it...0

why would i be attending court for a case that doesnt involve me?
You could make a formal complaint and say that if they continue to harrass you, you will take them to court for harrassment.0 -
they can disconnect a property at the road without a warrant0

My concern is did you move supplier before the crossed meters were sorted and the industry database updated? If not the problem is not resolved.Self Employed, Running my Dream Jobs0

funnily enough no, because despite saying they were going to get it sorted they never have. Ive since had confirmation that Eon are sorting the crossed meter issue from their end.
tortoise, i can see your point but as the case doesnt involve me, it onvolves BG versus the now defunct building company, why would i be admitted? i have no involvement in the case.
thanks for the answers guys all good stuff.0
