GM Card finishing - what happens to Rebate Points?

Their website has not been updated for years. That woman with the shades on the login link was already starting to annoy me 2 years ago.brewerdave wrote: »And there is still nothing on the website about the cards only being valid for another 7 weeks!!!!!

.....and the latest ..I've been sent another letter urging me to transfer my outstanding credit over to my GM Card !!!!! !!!!!! !!!
Looks like they've told the customers but not briefed the Marketing Department!!0 -
Another disheartened GM card holder here, just been on their website and they have finally put that it's coming to an end..... but if you go into the reward programm tab it says the following
"If you’re one of our current customers, you should have received a Reward Voucher worth £150 that you can redeem on top of your accumulated Rebate Points"
thats fine if you are thinking of changing or buying a new car before March 2012 if not it's worth nothing!!!!

An additional £150 voucher that I'm in no position to currently use, just adds irony. Here are a few alternative options...
1. Offer us a flat rate of cash if we are not intending to purchase a vehicle in next year. £150 would work for me.
2. Offer us vouchers for use at Vauxhall garages at rate of 50% of our points.
and, line up an alternative credit card which we can commute credit limit and balance to seamlessly, without having to go through applying for another card.
Anyone else agree or can think of other suggestions?Look after the pennies, you might need their help in a scrap with the pounds.0 -
Both good ideas but they won't happen. Vauxhall don't own any garages so what's in it for Vauxhall to subsidise repairs and used sales in third-party businesses?
And the whole point of "partnerships" and leased business premises is that they can shut them down with impunity whenever they want.
I have no doubt the sudden closure is in line with the T&C that we all agreed to, so that's it. We can all moan but nothing good will happen because they don't need to - legally ansd that's what counts in business.0 -
Hmmm. I wouldnt have bought a Corsa and a Meriva for Mrs Frog over the past ten years (each with £2500 of points) had it not been for the GM card deal. Im assuming they still made on the car, even though they changed the rules to allow only smaller amounts of points on the small cars.
Seems bizarre in such a tough environment that they want to close off a valuable marketing tool. No more Vauxhalls for Mrs Frog now.illegitimi non carborundum0 -
It used to be that points meant prizes but it is quite obvious that that is not the case anymore with GM and yes it is very plain to see from all the comments - but does anyone actually have an outstanding balance?? Are you not concerend about what they are likely to do about the outstanding balances? I have a very high credit limit on mine and unfortuantely I had a major personal situation this year that required the use of some of that limit. I cannot foresee any way of repaying the balance off if the company decided to recall the debt...! So, forget the 2800 points I had, does anyone know what rights I have under these circumstances should the debt be recalled, which they can?
Please don't say remortgage, transfer to another card, get a loan, win the lottery or beg borrow or steal...these are not the answers.
Citizens advice maybe, Ombudsman maybe, even the company themselves?0 -

the card ceases to exist/be usable
I assume you will be able to continue with your current repayment set up until it is cleared given the amount wont be able to increase.
im sure someone will confirm or perhaps you would be better just phoning them0 -

I think the most likely outcome is that GM will own the marketing rights to these customers and will relaunch a new GM card in a year or two via another card company. In the meantime they will be able to reduce their liabilities under the existing incentive as points get cancelled.
I suspect you are right
Over the years I have experienced this with Nat West's Airmiles card - this card was withdrawn with no replacement although the airmiles were safe in a airmiles account (the credit card was not the only method for collecting points)
Lloyds TSB now operate an airmiles cards
MBNA's AOL card was withdrawn with no replacement , MBNA are usually on the ball and the T&Cs state that the customer will remain with them if a co-branded venture comes to an end
MBNA's T&C were clear about this in the case of Abbey and A&L
From a customer point of view it is difficult to ascertain what will happen in the event of a co-branded venture ending from the T&C as these all include the 60 day notice get out clause
Credit cards are not fixed term products and the customer expects the facility to continue unless their conduct justifies closure or the company ceases trading
I doubt that GM will relaunch the card using a different issuer , in this case GM seem to have lost interest as did AOL and HSBC is not intersted in the HFC card business having sold most of it to SAV Credit - there is no interest in the customers predicament by either party
Nevertheless ,I am surprised that the portfolio is not being sold to another provider bearing in mind that EGG is up for sale and money can be made
MBNA managed to aquire Sonycard from BOS - so there must be a way of selling it if they wanted toHi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
The c0cks have just sent me two new cards as mine expire end of December, and a letter hoping that I will continue to use the GM Card.
