GM Card finishing - what happens to Rebate Points?

Just taken another look at the GM Website and they are still offering the card and the rewards program. The site makes it quite clear that the points last for 4 years from when they first appear on your statement. At the very least, Vauxhall should honour this. I have almost £2,000 on mine and have used the card to purchase a car recently. I do not plan to buy another until Vauxhall until Sep 2012, so I will lose out on the points if they do not honour the 4 years.0

I've received the letter this morning too.
Although I originally got the card for the points and for the introductory APR offer, I have found that they have often had limited time offers at reasonable (for a credit card) interest rates over the years. So I am sorry to be losing the facility. The points were never used by me in the end because I ended up needing vans rather than cars and I didn't want any of their vans anyway.
I certainly hope that the people on here get satisfaction regarding their points.
I will still be owing GMCard money for a long time to come as I have a few grand owing on the card. The additional payments I make to my debt mountain will only start going to the GMCard at the point it becomes my highest interest debt. This is likely to be several years away.
It would be nice if they wiped the outstanding balance when they end the deal

Had the same letter this morning, would of thought hsbc would of made an offer of a replacement card for existing customers.0

I guess it wouldn't have hurt them as it's not like they would be exposing themself to greater risk than they already had.
Personally I'm not expecting such an offer as I already owe them a fair bit on another card of theirs (it's a very good LOB deal).0 -
I've just got the letter out of the blue - I had a very substantial credit limit on the card (which I've never approached!) - I doubt whether any other card supplier will give me such a generous limit ,whether I want it or not.
I've used the points twice in the past to get quite large "discounts" (£800 on one occasion) and I was saving them for a potential replacement car for my wife in 2013 - Ah well, another sale lost to Vauxhall(GM)
The crazy thing is,that in the same post I've been sent a replacement card!! Go figure!!0 -

Exactly the same situation for me .... got a very "generous" credit limit (though I too always pay off each month) which I never get anywhere close to - but its reassuring to know its there in case of something unexpected (e.g. the £1500 we spent getting back from Portugal during the "ash cloud" last year). If we've got until march 2012 to use the points then I think we may have a chance to use them - though the 2 times I'd done this before I qualified for the initial £2500 discount and as for the cars we'd be looking at we now only get £1250 its not quite as compelling!
Anyway, been meaning to apply for a JL "partnership" card for a bit (as since we've had more GM points than we're likely to spend for some time the 1% back on weekly shopping in Waitrose is probably a better deal!) so will do that now and hope they give me a "sensible" credit limit!
Overall I can understand why GM might want to stop this scheme as it is clearly very generous if people do use it to buy Vauxhalls ... I think the only quibble is the short notice of termination (especially as Christmas/New Year is in the middle of it) but I suppose that may be determined by legal requirements on notice periods. However, I am a bit surprised there was no offer to transfer you onto another credit card as I thought banks we desperate to sign up new customers0 -
I used to have a GM Mastercard, The earning rate was 4x then, and company car drivers who chose Vauxhall/SAAB for their company cars could elect to have vouchers from several retailers. I had about £1,600-worth and was happy about that.
I see that a similar (though less generous) offer applies to the current card. I wonder if those who have points which they are unlikely to use could ask GM Card whether exceptionally they could exchange their points for such vouchers.
They may say no, of course, but it doesn't hurt to ask.0 -
Also had letter, but had stopped really using GMCard when they limited the points you could redeem per model......until then Mrs Frog got a shiny new Corsa or Meriva every few years with 2,500 points.
PS Now have Egg card.illegitimi non carborundum0 -
GM are like that. Selfish and uncaring.
I have a £4000 limit with GM card and can't get anywhere near that limit on my other "spare" card. (good job I don't need it), They told me they have no intention of offering another HSBC card to avoid any inconvenience to me, and I doubt they even considered it. That's what they are like. I spent at least £150,000 on that darned card and this is how they treat me.

And there is still nothing on the website about the cards only being valid for another 7 weeks!!!!!0
