British gas cutting me off/debt relief order

Options
Right i will try to keep this short.

i am going through a debt relief order it will all be completed 1st december. i have included a bill from British gas in this.
i was told due to me including British Gas in with this debt relief order i would need to change suppliers. Therfore i have gone to N power.
N power will be set up in 28 days from yesterday but i have British Gas saying they are going to cut me off in 7 days??
the bottom line is i dont want to be left without any electricity over christmas. has anybody else been in the same situation as me and what happened? i am really worried about this and just need some advice please

thank you

OP you might get a better response in this forum Debt-Free Wannabe <====click

With regard to moving and in debt you do realise the company may not let you go until any debt is paid and or new supplier may also request you pay in credit or have a payment meter installed

I would doubt that nPower would give you a credit meter under the circumstances and the DRO.

How big is the BG debt?

  • i owe british gas jus over £1000 once the debt relief order has gone through, that debt will be wipped off but british gas will not deal with me anymore so i have to moive. Same with my bank i currently bank with halifax but i have had to move to barcleys as that account will be closed once this debt relief order wipes out my overdraft.

regards N power i explained the whole situation on the phone what i was going through and they said it wudnt be an issue??? they have gave me a card to go pay at payzones with every month??? but my electricity will not be set up for anothe 28 days?

Whilst I appreciate the difficulties you must be in to qualify for a DRO and sympathise it would also have to be said that to be fair you are effectively walking away with their money so you can hardly expect British Gas to be happy to just keep supplying you until convenient for you.

If your meter is inside the house you may be able to get away with it - just don't let them in. If not you can only try & hurry along Npower I would have thought. How long you will have an easy time with them remains to be seen. Have you asked about their social tarrifs?

If BG have set a date to cut you off they must have a court order/Warrant - they will then be able to force entry and isolate the supply. If you are talking about a card presumably NPower will install a prepay meter tho'???
