    Done some budgeteering today.....

    I was well chuffed today. Remembered that I had my gas and electric meters read two weeks ago but didn't get a bill. After hanging on for twenty (yes, twenty) minutes all the while being told my call was valuable and I was moving up the queue I eventually got through. I told the call handler my query and this was the result;
Her: Your gas is £191 in credit.
Me: Okay, that's not too bad, £90 per month times three payments means I should have cleared it by April..(is relieved)
    Her: Uhm, no, it's £191 In.Credit.
    Me; Credit? (is confused)
Her: Yes, we owe you money.
Me: Oh. (still confused, doesn't understand concept of utility company owing me money)
Her: Yes, would you like us to send you a cheque? Although I do see here we have put your monthly direct debits down to £44 as your account is in so much credit.
me: NOOOOO (is terror stricken). this has been the coldest winter in living memory and it's not over yet (cast neer a clout til may be out). Please keep my credit balance and keep my direct debits at £90 and we'll review the situation nearer the end of the year.

I'm used to paying £90 a month for gas, so don't want to get used to paying £44, then interest rates go up and my mortgage goes up, only for gas to go up again.

Also cancelled the £6.99 I was paying for i-phone insurance and had accidental damage and cover away from home added for £35 for the remainder of my house insurance policy period. It's about £60 for a full year but DH has just got a new Blackberry Torch so it'll cover both our phones and not just mine.

Also cancelled my subscription to Closer and Now Magazines.

And got round to cancelling a mobile phone contract which was up in August and is £12 per month.

And cancelled DS1's sub to Top Gear Magazine which is £5 a month.

last payment for footy season ticket comes out next month, but have decided not to renew next year as I dont look forward to go anymore. That's £20 a month I will save

However on a negative note DH's car insurance renewal has come and it;s £710 for the year. I'm going to get him to ring them nearer the end of the month to see if they can come down any more as best quote I have got elsewhere is £653 but the excess is £150 more...(boo). I have no spare money to pay this so am going to have to put in on a CC and do some padding over 12 months.

Not spending money hasn't gone great guns, have been to Morrisons three times this week, bought two birthday cakes and paid for a party for DS2 (£75). I would have been £25 more, but three invited kids didn't turn up.

Am left with £330 and it is 20 days to pay day
    Start Date: 27/11/2010
    Padding: Day 42
    Target £8000
    Amount: £562.23

Sounds like you're making lots of progress and £330 to payday is considerably more than the £30 I appear to have to last until the 15th. My maths clearly went very wrong somewhere.

    Hello diary readers

    Another payday....

February was not a cracking month for me (all my own fault).
    Bills account: £120.52 overspent
    Reason:
    1. DH upgraded mobile phone contract a few months early / had to contribute towards the cost of his new phone, so instead of being £35 his phone bill for this month was £120.
    2. I upgraded my house insurance to include cover for items away from the home in view of fact he has the latest blackberry and I have an i-phone, so this was £33.92 not budgeted for.
    3. As I said last month we paid the kids £320 Xmas money into the bank for safekeeping. DS1 has taken £50 cash out, which adds to the overdrawn balance.

    Spends account: £106.10 overspent.[/COLOR]
    Reasons:
    1. I had to pay £193 to repair the car I crashed into on black ice at the beginning of January.
    2. DS2 had a birthday party which totalled £73.45
    3. I paid for my road tax out of Jan wage just in case it didn't arrive in time if I had waited to pay for it today; £85.25 (it arrived in two days BAH)
    4. We had last weekend away (a surprise from DH) and although the hotel room was free, we had to pay for stuff to do while we were there (stop it with the dirty minds). I put £27.50 towards a meal out.
    5. I wanted a new jacket and a new pair of jeans to take with me on the weekend and to a party we have been invited to, grand total was £76.
    6. February is DS2 and DH's birthday, and we were invited to a birthday party which ended up in us having to spend £10 on a present.

Hopefully none of the above will apply next month!!!

In fact I have a pretty quiet month this month. Lets hope there are no disasters.

I've started a spreadsheet of spends, which I am going to do my best to keep up to.

PS - Have a job interview on Monday, wish me luck.

HAH! Famous last words or what! Youngest DS broke his wrist yesterday evening, so I spent four hours in A&E. He's in plaster for the next four weeks.

I was chatting to the A&E Receptionist and to cut a long story short told her I had an interview on Monday and she's really gone and knocked my confidence by saying; "Good luck, hope you get it but you find these jobs are usually earmarked". I thought I had left all that behind with the previous employer. Oh well, at least I have still got a job.

Right Ms Floozie, less of that talk.

You do find that with pretty much any job if there are internal applicants then the hiring manager may well have an idea about who they would hire from their own department. However, an external candidate can then come in and blow their ruddy socks off. That's where you come in.

Don't listen to the silly trout, she's probably applied for it too :D

We at Fresian Towers will be cheering you on regardless.

Ignore the receptionist, shes just miffed that she wasn't shortlisted for interview. There are times when a fresh pair of eyeballs is infinately preferable to Dreary Deidre who has been stuck in a crimpolened rut since the 1940s. Just because they've got someone in mind doesn't mean someone much better won't come along.

Besides which is the A&E receptionist on the interview panel? Is she privy to some inside information that you don't know about? or is she simply a bitter twisted PMT suffering heifer? Only you can decide!
