Painting/covering copper pipes?

You could try a radiator paint such as

If painting exhaust paint or Hammerite are a waste of money. Use a decent solvent based gloss paint straight onto the clean copper - no undercoat - in a colour that will blend with the background.

Because undercoat isn't flexible and in due time it will crack off due to thermal expansion / contraction. Gloss is flexible and won't come off and will stick fine. Your suggestion of using emulsion (matt - don't use silk) straight onto the clean pipework will work equally as well but may take a couple of coats to cover.

ive used ordinary paint for many years with no real problems. just make sure the pipes are clean and bright to start with.
clean with sandpaper and wirewool.Get some gorm.0 -
Just paint clean pipe directly with gloss - rub it down and clean it with white spirit first.0
