Urgent please - tenant done a runner

I used to rent a flat - left months ago. However, have kept in vague touch with new tenant. However, new tenant indicated to me last night that hes done a bunk and told me to go & take whatever I wanted of his before Monday

However, I want to be fair to the landlord (cos he was a brilliant landlord) and tell him his tenant has done a bunk...

Difficult cos I dont want to get involved, but the landlord was really good & I would like to give him the heads up. What do you think folks?

I really dont want to be involved, but want to help the landlord

    I've no idea if the tenant owes rent. Hes not a friend of mine,we'd just kept in vaugue touch. Nothing more. He only said I had until Monday...difficult. I do know the contract is through an ARLA agent who were very good to me too. Know the tenant paid a substantial deposit, so thats something but I dont want landlord/agents to be involving me, but want to give landlord heads up

    if he's said "before Monday" presuambley that is the day the rent does not arrive and the LL will be clues in then, but there's no harm giving him a bell for info. It's not like you know where T has gone, is it. I don't understand your dilema, just get on with it.

    You mean you've been invited to steal stuff? What proof would you have of having been told to help yourself?

    Perhaps because it's the right thing to do - after all, in this case the landlord was apparently very good and deserves better. Why not get involved? Why call 999 when you see an old lady getting robbed - is that your policy?

    I can't really see the point if he has already gone.How is telling the landlord going to help him in anyway, so if you as you say do not want to get involved just forget all about it and stay away from the place.

    IMHO my gut reaction says STAY AWAY. For a start, does this mean you still have a key? How would that look if it comes to light? Do you trust the new tenant enough to not be setting you up?

    Seems to me the LL and the agency both have been good to you, and this abscondee is just trying to drop you in it somehow. For my money the only options are 1) totally ignore it, it's not your problem or 2) warn the landlord.

    Going back to the property is a BAD idea.
