Urgent please - tenant done a runner

This is a VERY strange situation!
I agree, WHY would someone who moved into a property you used to live in and somehow kept in contact with tell you they'd done a bunk so take what you want?!
Either thats not the whole truth or the done-a-bunk tenant is seriously disturbed??
You must have a key still? Otherwise theyre telling you to break in. And if you did have a key and done-a-bunk tenant knew this you must have known each other well.
Cant undersatnd it! But I wouldnt have a clue what to do either! I wouldnt want to get involved on one hand however like you said if the LL and agency were good to you and they could somehow find out you were given this information you could get into trouble.... Hard one!0 -
I can't think of a single law which would have you in court for not disclosing this kind of information. The new tenant is obviously either causing mischief or is deranged.
Under the circs I would most probably share this intelligence with the landlord but there's not a whole lot they could do about it other than go through the proper, legal process to gain possession. This won't be quick or simple.0 -
And I think the OP should post their key back to the LL (anonymously if they wish).0

I think you're all discussing a possibility which may not exist: the OP has given no indication in any of their posts that they have retained a key. They don't appear to be the kind of person who would have done so either.0

Tenant told me where key was. I have tried to let landlord know on moral grounds. I do feel for landlord, but can do no more
No, I didnt know current tenant at all. Maybe spoke to him about 3 times.
And I'm a great believer in trying to help people and trying not to be suspicious of everyone.
Tenant was a foreigner and I can only assume that his work has maybe gone pearshaped. Wether hes returned to his own country - who knows?0
