Got mine yesterday and seem fine for the money0

Got mine yesterday. They do have a good grip and the cutting did leave a lot to be desired. I compared them straightaway to my Victorinox knives(5 years old) on some potatoes, tomatoes and carrots. The Vict knives goes through like a hot knife thro butter :-)
The new feels bluntish and you need the tad little effort to cut through.
Anyways, this was meant to be used only when we invite people and I need to help the mrs!! Now I have an excuse not to :-)0 -
The other day I saw a very similar knife set for £14.99 at Wilkinsons - wonder how they compare with these? At least Wilko isn't trying to pass off a £125 set for £9.95

Hi all...I'm new to the forums and still trying to find my way around..but this seems like a good thread for my 1st post...56 cheffy...guess what I do..
I always found that you get what you pay for, this especially applies to knives, if you want a good knife get Sabatier or Global...
I see some people are happy with this set, that's great, but they'll probably be a bit blunt and may even cut to one side, this can be rectified, sharpen them on a steel if you are able to or get someone to do it for you, DON't use one of those 'pull though' sharpeners!!!
Just going for a look round.

Does anyone know where to get a knife block to hold the knives from this offer?
Thanks0 -
Hi
My first post so here goes.
I was a tad dubious about this offer and wondered if I'd ever see the free set based on what some of the previous posts have said.
I took the plunge and ordered the set, paying the £9.95 for P&P and forgot about it. About two weeks later I received them in the post and promptly took a look.
The set is not bad. It is as described. All stainless steel, and of a medium weight. They are certainly sharp enough (the plaster on one of my fingers is testament to that) and seem to be a of decent quality.
We have several other knives in a block at home - some we got from John Lewis (paying between £8 and £24 each) and some we bought from Sainsburys (£7 for two). They are certainly on a par with the ones from Sainsburys, yet not as heavy and well balanced as the ones from JL.
Overall, this is a seemingly good offer. At just under £2 a knife, it really is very hard to find very much to moan about the set.
If you want a few knives to use for day to day cooking, cutting and slicing - you could buy a lot worse!
Hope this helps.0 -
