World of Warcraft - ideal xmas pressie?

I was in PC World yesterday and noticed that they had reduced World of Warcraft from £30 to £15.
This could be an ideal xmas present for a keen computer gamer. Be warned though that this is possibly the most addictive game in the entire world!
I've lost my life to it. Might not be a good idea if you like your OH's company!
Seriously though, it is an excellent game.

My husband plays world of warcraft and he loves it too! He used to play Anarchy Online and Everquest but he much prefers wow.
He would definitely recommend it to others.
xxxIt costs nothing to be nice...:)

Not sure its a good xmas present though because of the subscription fees.0 -
please do not get this game, it is completely addictive. My brother is unable to do anything anymore. It's a bit extreme in his case, but it doesn't seem to be a game you can dip in and out of. Plus you have to pay a subcription to play online? He uses this as an excuse and he needs "to get his money's worth".

It's being priced so cheaply at the moment because an expansion pack is due out within the next couple of months which will be a further expense to be able to play the game fully."The reasonable man adapts to the world,
The unreasonable man adapts the world to himself,
Therefore, all progress depends on the unreasonable man."0 -
The only reason I havent bought this now, is that its £8.49p/m - although you can buy 90 day subscription cards which may be slightly cheaper. I think I was put off as well, because Star Wars Galaxies (which I owned) was the same. I play Guild Wars - you only pay for the game, then its free subscription.0

Buy it if you know the person you are buying it for will have a lot of time on their hands and/or is looking forward to a fairly boring Xmas.
Otherwise, I would choose something else. But there are those years when nothing is happening and this type of game works wonders!

The expansion pack is out at Christmas too, that is probably why the price has dropped.
Edit - like the chap above says0 -
But it is thoroughly addictive. Every body I know plays this game, including my other half. They never leabve the house now as they would rather meet up with each other 'in game' than in real life!!!!!
It is not much fun being a Warcraft Widow!!!People die, buildings burn, but true love is for ever.
:hello:0 -
ROFLMAO, yes a Warcraft widow is what my OH calls herself!
You can still play the game without the expansion pack. Still months of fun.
Yes, there's a £9 a month subscription but its way way cheaper than say a Sky subscription or a trip to the cinema and infinitely more interesting.
Could be a good way to get a wayward teenager to stay in! They could go out and hang outside the local bus stop or enter the world of Azeroth and do something meaningful instead!0 -
ds wanted this for Xmas last year and I nearly got it until I realised you had to pay the monthly subs. He is mad on Runescape at the moment and I have given in and paid the members fee but its only £3.20 and he does enjoy playing it and a lot of his pals are members too.0
