oh has finally got a new job, what now?

After being laid off over a year oh has finally got a new job :j he has had countless interviews, competition here is crazy when it comes to jobs!
The Job centre was next to useless when he last went to sign on and he asked about job grants and what would happen regarding benefits!
I read that we should get a back to work grant of £250 as we have children and a 4 week run on of housing benefit and council benefit.
Do we get a run on of normal benefits for the 4 weeks too? I'm a bit panicked about not having any money to live on, especially over christmas! I'm guessing it will be at least a month until oh gets his first pay in the bank...
Oh has his induction on the 8th, but hasn't been told what his offical starting date is yet. He had to do the new deal programme in the summer (what a joke that was! but that's another thread altogether
), I was a bit worried that it might mess up the claim to the run ons where they had to change the benefits over?
any advice regarding the run ons would be greatly appriciated

Nothing to do with children it's called a Job Grant.

Thank you, it is a great relief
I don't know whay some people think people on benefits have it so good, it's bloody horrible! Not somewhere I wish to go ever again.
I know it might seem like I'm trying to grab every penny can get regarding the run ons, but we do have 2 children and a ss who comes to stay around christmas, so we can't be stuck without money for the essentials, food, gas and electric, everything else can wait.
Does anyone know if the benefits (JSA) will run on for the 4 weeks like the housing and council tax benefit?
I should wait to phone the job centre I guess, I'm just impatient and like to know where we will be this time next month, I can't stand not being able to plan money, something I've got very good at with having none this past year
