lovefilm offer warning!

hi, i recently took up to free months trial offered by lovefilm.com in conjunction with boots (you got 750 free points!) when i signed up i didnt see the promotion box to put in my points code which was of course totally my fault. however i emailed STRAIGHT AWAY to lovefilm to ask really nicely if they could 'wangle' it for me to get my points.
i got the usual automated reply to say email recieved and would be replied to but nothing. so taking this into account when my trial came to an end (tomorrow technically) i decided to cancel. i dont want to deal with a company i cant communicate with!
anyway now they are saying they havnt recieved the last disc i sent back middle of last week so definately in pleanty of time if they dont recieve it today they are billing me for a months usage! grrrrr
if they take ages sending a film they dont give you anything for it. which was another reason i didnt continue with them - the time it took discs to come out!
so just a warning folks, as they say there is no such thing as a free lunch! (although screen select didnt try this with us they were fab!)
anyone else had this kind of problem?

I signed up on Fri and I'm sure the prom9otional box was already filled in as I used the direct link given on the leaflet I recieved with my order. I had to call boots today regarding other points that weren't showing as pending and mentioned the lovefilm one's. She said they may take a while to show but as it's an independant company I would have to contact lovefilm regarding the points. She gave me the phone number that I will try after the 21 days trial if the points don't show up.i was thinking of cancelling before they even send any out as I'm not too bothered about the free films just the 750 points!0

Am having almost exactly the same problem with them Helen. I signed up through CD Wow, have had nothing but damaged discs...discs go missing, only old films waaaaayyyy down my list and now, as I'm trying to cancel they're claiming they haven't received my last disc back
What's worse is that the missing disc is the French Connection...and they're threatening to charge me £20 if it doesn't turn up..I could probably get it off CD Wow for a couple of quid it's so old
I'd not touch them with a bargepole ever again.....I'm off back to Blockbusters, not as cheap but very reliable.FB :heartpuls Wiggly

I have been using Lovefilm for over 2 years and the last few weeks they have been really slow at receiving discs back... I think they have recently merged with another DVD rental company and also they have changed all the systems over which may have something to do with this.

I have used them in the past. They are not too bad. On one occasion they sent me the wrong DVD & another occasion the DVD I rented never turned up. However I did not get charged at all as it was a free trial & I cancelled in due time.0

HTH.
They seem to have swallowed up Sainsbury DVD rental, and merged with Screenselect in a short space of time. I reckon they have dipped in quality in the last while too.Not buying unnecessary toiletries 2024 26/53 UU, 25 IN0 -
i was with screenselect and lovefilm have taken it over recently. i think screenselect also does the tesco rentals.52% tight0

what a shame, i thought screenselect were ok, was going to go back to them
i suppose the moral of the story is get a proof of posting when you return dvds. though if you can get to the PO you ca get to blockbuster so wouldnt even need an internet rental lol
btw i think wilkinsons have started renting too someone said!!0 -

I have only just signed upto screen select before i saw this thread!! it seems they are part of lovefilm but on screen selects terms it says if you cancel before the period ends or b4 you get a disc they wont honour the deal or something like that. I signed up last week and received 1 disc but think i shall get proof of postage when i return it just in case0 -
ANother long term LoveFilm user, and can also confirm that there service since they relaunched has been very poor. Films posted back taking 5-6 days to go off my 'Films at home' list, and waiting 24-48 hours before posting next one.
I am also annoyed in that they had a week 'off' while they relaunched their website where they didnt process any DVDs - but I still paid for that week.
Will give them a bit longer before jumping ship - the only problem is finding another ship to jump too!0 -
So far I've been happy with love film (via CD WOW). Apart from one occasion, the turnover of DVDs has been quite quick. The website format has recently changed to a high/medium/low priority rather than numerically prioritised, and since then I've been getting a lot more of my top films than I was before.Am not witty enough to put something cool and informative here:o
