Moving from income support to ESA?

Does anyone know what procedure the DWP have in place to move those currently on income support (incapacity) onto ESA?

The conversion of your benefit from IS (or IB, if you receive that benefit) to ESA will occur when you will next be due to have your claim re-assessed. For example if you are due to be re-assessed in May 2011 this will trigger the conversion from IS/IB to ESA. At that point you will be required to undergo the Work Capability Assessment (WCA) and afterwards you will receive ESA, if you pass the WCA.0

Thats not true or I will still be on invalidity when I reach retirement age but this is what was supposed to happen anyway because of the severety of our illnesses/disabilities, I and many other dont get re-assessed, have medicals or get forms.
Edited to add fromt the disability alliances link they still havnt decided what to do with invalidity claimants and
+where possible, the DWP will use existing data held for IB/IS to determine entitlement to ESA+
from the link, maybe everyone who has demonstrated a life long severe disability or illness which would mean that they wont ever be able to work will be transfered straight over into the appropriate group without the stress of a medical.0 -

And how can you find out when your claim is due to be re-assessed?“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0 -

Do you recieve forms to fill in periodically about your health for your IS claim?0 -

You'd think they might do this but apparently not:Arguments were put forward to move the Personal Capability Assessment exempt groups (about 30% of IB/IS claimants) onto the ESA Support Group but these were rejected. The Treasury are still mulling over what to do about pre-1995 tax exempt claimants (of IB and SDA).“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0 -

No, currently exempt from IB50 & PCA tests.“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0 -

Thats what is says in the linked disability alliance info but I wont hold my breath, the DWP have the information about my disabilities and havnt bothered me since 1992, I now have new major illnesses to go with that + the further affects since 1992 on my disabilities to go with everything else.~Chameleon~ wrote: »No, currently exempt from IB50 & PCA tests.
Me too but there are not the same exemptions with ESA, I am exempt due to high level DLA care (and mobility) but it means nothing now.0 -
One of the main points of the transfer to esa are medicals for all.
The big exception will be those nearing retirement age who will remain on i/b,i/s0 -

The system's creaking now without the added strain of the IB'ers being assessed so god help it when the migration process begins. The appeals service is also snowed under with ESA appeals so when those failing the WCA appeal it may well implode.0
