Disconnecting BT and BB.

In the case of both phone & broadband,an engineer has to physically disconnect your service by removing what are called 'Tie Pairs' or 'Cross Connects'.
These are lengths of wire that link the network side to the line that runs to your street cabinet & then on to your home.BT pay BT Openreach to do this work & hence get billed for it.
The pic below shows all the Tie Pairs on a couple of mainframes;
