Off topic- but I do wish they would do a single stamp for the value of a 2nd class packet between 251-500g. It takes me 4 stamps to get to that value.

I wonder if RM are heading this way
they have brought out an RD and now an SD stamp

so perhaps thy will go for stamps that cover certain bands as a way to 'simplify' pricing

It would certainly help me, I sit here sometimes and try and work out the best way to make up a certain amount.

I have no idea if this makes a difference but welcome any comments from anyone who knows.

If I use multiple stamps - I used up some 12.5p 1970s Xmas Stamps recently. I never put the full amount on. This means I get a nice large Post Office Frank Stamp look-alike as well otherwise I suspect there might be a delay in the sorting office as it not easy adding up half pennies.

Also I notice if I use my main post office then not only do they add the Frank but they Post Mark the other stamps themselves using a stamp. I assume this must make sorting even faster.
I doubt people in the 1970s had a problem with counting 0.5ps up. Nor do I, who was born in 1979.

I wish they would do an 81p stamp (large letter 100g-250g).

IIRC some of the special sets do 81p values.

    The collectors sets .

    For instance this one:

    http://www.royalmail.com/portal/rm/shop?catId=9300091&pageType=Others&pageId=shp_prddetails&product=prod96500009&productType=0&parentCategoryId=cat95990007&categoryId=cat95990010

includes a 60p and a 97 p stamp which are for overseas weights.

I do buy a few of these sets just to get the odd 81p stamps or 97p ones for the US.

If you happen to be lucky, you can go in to a post office and ask whether they have any 81p stamps in blocks or sheets to prevent you having to buy multiple collectors' sets just for the 81p stamps.

Really depends on what each individual cashier has in their black stamp books though.

they are just the plain white labels with a pretty design.

I think your PO man is pulling your leg. All stamps, labels etc are scanned, if they can be read (and stamps can) they are processed.

Nope they are NOT plain white labels, they are pre-printed large gold coloured stamps.
As for my pal, he's adamant that is the practice at his sorting office but obviously you know better than him....
