Silly Question re: postage

            Hmmm, ok here's one then;
could I say I want to send this 1st recorded and then hand over the stamps as payment? Thus not making more work for the postal staff.. They are legal tender after all and you would expect a Post Office to take them...although I suspect they wouldn't
Post office counters do not accept stamps as payment, legal tender never actually means what we think it does.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. please show me where i can buy a £1.72 stamp then to make RM happy. Or how about the majority of books under 500g that cost £2.24 1st class, anyone seen a £2.24 stamp.
you can get them at any post office, they are nice big Gold stamps and are stamped for any value.
Incidentally just to check I contacted my source at the RM and he confirms that anything with more than one stamp on has to be hand sorted and is left until last, if they are busy they are sometimes left for the next day or shift obviously delaying it whether its first class or not.Instant Credit means Instant Debit!

So, if you pay the price for a certain delivery timescale etc - you won't get the service you've paid for? Hmmm, time to get on the outrage bus0 -

They are the post office labels printed by the post office when you take your parcels in, they are just the plain white labels with a pretty design. They are not postage stamps and are therefore no use to me as I do not wish to queue at a Post office.
Also everything is done automatically, I think your PO man is pulling your leg. All stamps, labels etc are scanned, if they can be read (and stamps can) they are processed.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I regularly use individual 1st class stamps that add up to (usually more) then the correct postage amount. Given the timescales of feedback I have received it seems they are usually received the next day, so I dont think they are dealt with as 2nd class post.0

            Hello OP do you mean the modern 2nd class stamps that just say '2nd' on them ? I was always under the impression if you wanted to use multiple stamps you could only use the 'value' ones.0

Nope, stamps read for the value on them. Those 2nd class stamps will always scan at the value of the stamp at the time it is used. So at the moment a single 2nd class stamp will have the value of 32p, after next April the same stamp will have a higher value.
My local sorting office run a limited post office counter, they have no label printing machine and they use stamps. For an 81p stamp second class they use a standard 1st class and 2 x 20p , and as that is the easiest way to stamp for 81p I do the same.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Off topic- but I do wish they would do a single stamp for the value of a 2nd class packet between 251-500g. It takes me 4 stamps to get to that value.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I have no idea if this makes a difference but welcome any comments from anyone who knows.
If I use multiple stamps - I used up some 12.5p 1970s Xmas Stamps recently. I never put the full amount on. This means I get a nice large Post Office Frank Stamp look-alike as well otherwise I suspect there might be a delay in the sorting office as it not easy adding up half pennies.
Also I notice if I use my main post office then not only do they add the Frank but they Post Mark the other stamps themselves using a stamp. I assume this must make sorting even faster.0
