ISP Bartering

Has anyone tried bartering with their ISP?

I've been with Plus Net for around 18 months on their £21.99 2MB tarrif. I was tempted to move to Eclipse Internet who do 'unlimited' 8MB access for £14.99 a month, however they seem to have a poor reputation and I notice they cap newsgroup downloads to 2x15kb/s so not sounding that great.

So I was wondering if it might be worth phoning PlusNet and saying I'm thinking of leaving to go to Eclipse and trying to get them to patch the £14.99 price. Anyone tried this and had any luck?

Cheers

Pete

Do it. They should be able to match it as they are offering this package to new customers already:

    Plusnet Broadband Plus

The only caveat is a 4Gb download limit between 4pm and midnight but this won't be a problem unless you do a lot of peer-to-peer stuff at these times.

As I understand it, Plusnet are upgrading existing customers that have opted in to 8Mb for free but it is a slow process. Threatening to leave might push you to the front of the queue.

I did it with Pipex last year, got 3 months free + free upgrade from 512kb to 1Mb but they ould only do it if you agreed to a further 12 month contract.
  • Hi PeteW,

If your outside of you're initial contract, see what they can do you for in exchange for a new 12 month contract. I'd be shocked if they didn't offer you a new deal!
