The cats protection league usually have kittens needing homes, you usually have to make a donation to cover their costs ( £15 ish?) but it will be neutered and chipped.

Local vets also sometimes get to know of kittens going in their areas. Always worth having a little chat with the counter staff. Our put your details in a book with the type of pet you wish to obtain.
Kittens are a lot of work, why not try and get a 1 or 2 year old puss from a rescue centre. RSCPA operate re homing or the blue cross or even Woodgreen shelters. This time of year they will want to re home as many as is possible.
Most of our cats of the past 18+ years are rehomers. The latest 2 boys we saw the add on freecycle and snapped them up real quick and it is a jolly good job we did. One was so ill, he was 1.5kg underweight and could of died. He has really grown into a huge muscled black long haired boy. His brother is just as gorgeous. So now we have 3 furry purries. All have odd habits, like climbing an upright ladder, much as we would do! The 15 year old gal, likes to warm her bum on my PC monitor. And all are very loving pets.0 -
Or, if you're looking for a posh one (!), some websites have either kittens being offered, or cats of various ages to be rehomed. My sister loves Burmese cats so looked on the website and has now taken on a very beautiful 18 month old cat.
Personally, I'd hate to have a kitten, and my own cat was a gift from someone emigrating.0 -
Try your local rescue centres.
Although it's out of kitten season at the minute. Have you considered taking on an older cat? What matters most is how well you walk through the fire0 -
The RSPCA are currently overwhelmed with cats and kittens they are trying to find good homes for. I'm sure they'll have a kitten, or a young cat looking to be rehomed.0

We got a kitten a few weeks ago.
I googled kittens plus the town where we live and there were several links to relevent websites .
Had several local litters to choose from and some were free to good homes.0 -
I would encourage you not to 'buy' a kitten from freeads or similar, there are literally thousands of kittens up and down the country in rescue centres (not to mention tens of thousands of adult cats) who are desperate for a home. The majority of rescues are closed to new admissions as they are just so overwhelmed with unwanted cats and kittens. A kitten from a rescue centre will be vet checked, flead, wormed, vaccinated and often microchipped. Some rescues will give you a voucher for reduced neutering/spaying when the time comes too.
Here's a link to rescues in your area - just click on the part of the map you live in.

Although there are some genuine 'accidental' litters in the free ads most of them are backstreet breeders who continually and purposely breed from their cat to make a quick buck. The kittens are often allowed to leave Mum too early and are in poor health, buying from a free ad or similar only encourages these backstreet breeders as they can make a quick buck at the expense of their poor cat allowing it to have litter after litter. These kittens will more than likely not have seen a vet, may have fleas/worms and will not be vaccinated.0 -
To be honest i thought about adopting a cat but wanted to go for a more 'exotic' breed.
For example a bengal or a british short hair cost around £400 with pedegree.
Does anyone know the best place to go about finding these sorts of cats? My local vets perhaps?0 -
Ok. I have a pedigree Maine Coon, and when I decided I wanted one I looked for breeder websites. I then went to have a look at the set-up and the kittens. Some people are just a one-cat breeder, and some on places like Gumtree etc say 'no papers'. The reason behind this is that when you buy a pedigree kitten from a breeder, most of them are sold as pets, and if you wish to then breed from your cat you will need to inform the breeder so that your cat can be put on the Active Register. If this doesnt happen you won't be able to register your kittens.
Hope that helps
Oh.. and you'll probably need to pay more than £400 for a kitten on the Active Register0 -

My kitten came from Cats Protection last weekend, fee was £45 but that included her toys, blanket, some of her food, microchip and a voucher for neutering.
Well worth it IMO and a cat gets a loving homeI have a gift for enraging people, but if I ever bore you it'll be with a knifeLouise Brooks
