Sorry if this has already been asked, and I know times getting on, but I've just decided I am going to make a christmas cake this year after all. I noticed Asda had some promotions on dried fruit and Bero flour yesterday, I got a bag each of plain and SR flour for £1, cant remember the prices for the fruit
I think they were £1 for any 2 bags (500g if I remember right) I was just wondering if any of the other supermarkets are cheaper.

Aldi had sultanas, cherries etc in last week.0

Aldi had sugar (had 500g of demerera and icing sugar for 49p each) and loads of dried fruit today when I visited. Didn't look at the prices of the fruit as I didn't need any, but they are usually really cheap.
Flour is 21p for a big bag (3.5lb??), so that's cheaper than Asda:hello:0 -
I might have a walk over to Aldi tomorrow, thanks. They usually have half decent sherry or port as well, I think my recipe uses port. It also has cranberries in the recipe, not many but there quite expensive, hopefully Aldi will have these too. Thank you

Use the supermarket value packs of dried fruits
Asda
Smartprice Raisins 500G - 41p
Smartprice Sultanas 500G - 41p
Smartprice Mixed Fruit 500G - 41p (also contains citrus peel)
Smartprice Currants 500G - 58p
I tend to use a mix of sultanas and mixed fruit and funnily enough, no one has ever noticed.0 -
I put anything in that I have in the cupboard, just make up the combined weight with dried fruit, apricots, prunes, glace pineapple. If the fruit is a bit dry, put it in hot water (or cold alcohol for an hour or two) for a few minuits to plump it up, and let cool down again. I have just decided I will make a cake after all.0

sainsbury's have there luxury dried fruit 500gm at £1.39 on BOGOF it makes a lovely cake if soaked in alcohol. It's got apricots cherries pineapple and peel already in it so saves buying different packets. Not traditional style I know, but very convenient.0

Holland and Barratt have a special on dried cranberries at the moment. 200g for £1.49 (was £2.49).

Thank you all for the suggestions, I like the sound of the luxury dried fruit, might mix two packs of that with the economy stuff, I'm not making them until the weekend.
