You still ended up with a damaged car and a load of inconvenience whoever was deemed to be at fault.

If your aim is to avoid every possibility that some idiot might damage your car then I suggest locking it in a garage and never driving it.

That is my aim, but no need to lock it in a garage, I can usually spot idiots in good time.

Indeed, but Strider described a situation where someone basically changed lanes into the side of him.

I too can usually spot people likely to do that, and the best tactic is just to overtake them as quickly as possible, even if that means momentarily exceeding the speed limit.

There's still not a lot you can do about that brief moment where you are alongside them and exposed to risk from them changing lane at just the wrong time. All you can do is shorten it by overtaking them faster.

Well I guess you could never overtake anybody ever, even on motorways, but that doesn't help either because someone overtaking you may not be paying attention and change lanes into the side of you.

^^ It's right, we simply can't account for idiots who take offence to being overtaken (becoming extremely common these days) or simply don't look before pulling out.

You all know I post video's on Youtube, but what i've not been posting is my daily fight against people who block the right hand lane of the dual carriageway JUST to stop anyone overtaking them.
Quite often I find myself having to change to the left hand lane so that they think im no longer a threat and THEN using a "stealth overtake" when they finally do move over.
It shouldn't be this way, but too many people take their ego's for a ride these days..... Especially and shockingly, women!

Same applies to solid white lines then ?
Not if they're on the left.
