Oh and another thing - I'm going to get the rocker cover replaced, should I also be replacing the gasket as it look like it's seeping a bit of oil.

Most cars more than a year or so old will have a little oil leaking out of the gasket (if its the one I'm thinking of), you're worrying unecessarily. :)

Not usually the rocker gasket on the 106 head.

It's rusting and bubbling so I thought it could do with replacing. It also looks like there is some oil seeping out through the seal.

Any decent garage would change the gasket when they change the cover anyway, but wouldn't it be cheaper just to rub it down and paint it? I've never seen one so bad it rusted through.

Yes it would be cheaper but also hard work! Looking at some of the work on 106owners some people put some real effort into it.

I'm not sure how 'bad' it is relatively speaking, but it certainly doesn't look good. It might not be rusting but it has gone brown and 'bobbly'. I'm getting the cambelt replaced soon so I thought I might as well have it changed, if only to make the engine bay look nicer :p not very MSE I know!

On the subject of cambelts, I have been quoted £235 by a Pug specialist for changing belt, tensioner and water pump. Sound reasonable?

It's about what we paid for ours, so sounds good.
