Strikes DO work

The word 'hospital' gets you a 5 point bingo bonus for ebay excuses, you need the mention of 'disabled' in there to get a line and a 'disabled child' for a full house though.

I wonder if a lot of buyers have started their Christmas shopping and suddenly found that most of us sellers have found the button to block those with 2 or more strikes.

I look at my logs sometimes on ebay to show many people have not been able to bid, there are sometimes dozens of them.
An alternative for the full house is a disabled pet or needed to take pet to the vets after some accident in the house for example "I could not pay as I was busy taking my disabled cat to the hospital after she fell off of a chair" or something like that.
I have also noticed a sharp increase it buyers being blocked for too many item strikes in my buyer requirements activity log I have not noticed many messages begging me to let them bid this month though still there is time before christmas.

It's sad that you people have become so jaded that you automatically assume that everyone is lying. This is the real world, thousands, maybe millions of families have disabled relatives, so the chances that you would encounter such a family are quite high.

It is rather pathetic, rude and offensive of you to decide that this disabled child doesn't exist, and worse still, that you choose to publicly ridicule her on an open forum. Your post adds nothing useful whatsoever to this site, you haven't helped anyone, you haven't done anyone a service, you've just betrayed yourself as a despicable cynic of the worst possible kind.

zen, get off your soapbox. We all know there are disabled people, relatives in hospital and everything else.

But if you were a seller on ebay and you had numerous people buying then not paying, there is a pattern in the excuses.
Instead of saying "sorry I bid and Im skint" its always a disabled, ill, funeral, car broke down yadda yadda.

What exactly has YOUR post contributed?

A 300+ buyer I wonder how much they have put into ebay sellers pockets?

My own view is Ebay is weak in handling unexpected payment problems meaning good buyers may go elsewhere and stop using Ebay altogether. Buyers do not get this problem on Amazon.

It is not possible for me to comment on the case in question however I will ask a question.

How can I as a frequent bidder on ebay prevent myself getting into problems if something unexpected happened to me? By the time it was sorted I would have too many strikes to use ebay and be faced with sellers unwilling to listen.

None of us can prevent things happening, I've been blue lighted to hospital before now with 'live' ebay listings and purchases. However, the fact that once you start selling regularly this comes up over and over again means you just don't believe any of it, and if that hits a few genuine ones, so be it.

It isn't me that spoils it for those genuine ones, it is all those time wasters who decide not to buy , get blocked and suddenly think they are very clever thinking up an excuse why they didn't pay. I am not a judge or jury so I keep things simple, you don't pay you get a strike, end of story.

Frankly as wel with the amount of people who start of with a sob story about an injured father and then forget half way through and turn him into a daughter instead I think I am right to be suspicious. The last one I personally got a begging letter from was an excellent one, I had hesitated in opening an NPB due to their high feedback and because I could see they were still buying and getting feedback from other sellers. A month after finally placing a strike on their acocutn I got the whole 'hospital' excuse, shame you forgot I could see the rest of your activity then wasn't it.

It's sad that you people have become so jaded that you automatically assume that everyone is lying

It's sad that some time wasters spoil it for those genuine buyers or sellers that do have issues, blame them.

I've had someone win an item, and then no contact, so went through the strike process with them after a week, and then a couple of weeks later had a message along the lines of "sorry, was on holiday, still want the item, have you relisted it, normally very good ebayer blah blah blah".
So I relisted the item, oand told her, and she said she would only bid on it if i removed the strike as she wasn't able to bid on any items.
Needless to say I didn't. I think the strike system is there for those who don't pay within the rules, and it's just silly to expect that to be taken back.

It's far more sad and tragic that people feel the need to make this stories up. It degrades people with real problems who don't use them as an excuse and just get on with it.

To be honest the only excuse anyone's ever given me was "my PC blew up".

I took it at face value, things happen, didn't mention it, just said thanks for the apology, didn't remove the strike though.

I don't know what I'd do if I was confronted with the situation Soo has just been in; NPBs just seem to bid and vaporise, never had that kind of issue with one, but then didn't really sell stuff that attracted them.
