Easiest Credit Cards to Obtain ?

Options
Hello,

Which Credit Cards would be the easiest to obtain with a bad credit history (Arrears and Defaults) ? Im currently trying to rebuild my demolished credit record after being made unemployed and not being able to pay any of my creditors, I've started right at the bottom of the pack (Got a Cashplus Mastercard) with credit builder (not sure what help this will be, Payments are recorded onto my credit files after 3 months so i guess its something positive), And i have a Orange phone contract (4 months into it and i've never missed a payment), I currently bank with Lloyds TSB (have a basic Cash account with Visa Debit Card, Looking at upgrading to the Silver Account), and a basic Barclays Account, I get paid Roughly £1100 a month straight into my Lloyds account each month, Where i transfer £300 into my barclays account, I know mainstream cards are out of the question, But im just after something that i will be able to pay off in the interest free period and rebuild my credit abit, I was thinking Aqua, or perhaps Granite Card, I was declined By capital one for the classic visa card a few months back, And a Barclaycard initial 5 months ago (Will go in branch and talk to a advisor or bank manager when applying in future), Or is it a case of im screwed for 6 years ? I've heard people be approved through there bank after paying 6 months wages into the account and spending wisely and sesnably, No doubt you guys will point me in the right direction :).

Kindest regards

Michael

  • vanquis if cap 1 have refused you.

TBH i would wait til you have @ least 6 months history. How old are the defaults, and what kind of arrears do you have.

You dont want too many searches, so you are better 'saving them' for a few months when you are in a position to be accepted.

are the existing debts and defaults marked as settled on your credit report
if not then it's unlikely that anyone will give you credit

I think it goes like this, read from top to bottom for easiest to get.

Own bank credit card if you have a good history with them (they will still credit check you though)
Vanquis (dreadful interest rate but given to anyone with a pulse)
    Cap 1 Start
    Aqua
    Cap 1 Classic
    Barclaycard Initial

I have an unsettled default on my credit file from last year but was still accepted for a Vanquis card earlier this month. Interest rate a bit steep though

what was the credit limit and what was the APR?
  • Callcredit 905 score Experian 709 score Equifax 877. never ever had court order or default, never ever missed a payment.

I did a pre check barclaycard 2 days ago and it said good news you are 80-90% for 16.9% card and 60-70% for 0% card.

After a bit browsing I applied but did not notice till i had clicked that I filled in the application for an initial card at 29% it took a minute and then a message saying declined and said these are credit cards you may like to try showing me vanquis and aqua.
They never took my credit file into consideration at all, I'll tell you what happened,

I live in not a very good post codes and it scores very low and they decided by my post code that I would not be a good risk.

So dont be fooled by individual credit rating as its a con you will be judged by class and area

So I would be offered a card at 59% but not at 16/9% and we have these pompus b/tards on the tv saying the poor have only themselves to blame for their situation.

The tories are lying you cant get yourself out of the poverty trap they wont allow you.

Mate your applying for a blo0dy barclaycard initial credit building card, not Amex platinum,so don't think you failed because of your postcode because you didn't.
BC initial is one of the harder sub-prime cards to get at 29.9% compared with vanquis anything from 40-60%,so you can see why BC credit scoring may be that little bit tighter.

You need to start with a cap 1 classic or vanquis, build up a few green zero's for 12-18 months with them then your chances for a card rate of 16.9% will be high.
  • im in a similar situation, my credit score was 471 last month (bit narked at having to pay £6 for it mind).
I have had credit in the past and quite abit TBH, but i always maintained it really well until 2 years ago.
We (myself and OH) both lost our jobs, i was pregnant and so on, my capital one account went to default and is now in the hands of another debt company. Im paying them £60 a month and can quite comfortably afford to repay that.
I already have a vanquid card, with only has a small limit of £500 and im under that and paying £65 per month on that one.
My other cards (Virgin MBNA was settled last month along with my NEXT account) and the other things we have are all satisfactory on credit file, mortgage sec loan contract mobile phone etc).
I am wondering whether i can apply for another cc just to combine the cards into one via a BT, but i dont want to run the risk of doing a credit check and it leaving a mark should i be declined.
We are earning £34k a year between us now and want to better our financial situation as our car is old and dont think it will last the winter, so it looks like we dont have any choice but to be witohut one as we have been previously declined for finance before....i feel like im trying my damndest to help ourselves, but didnt know if anyone else has been in this situation and managed to find a good solution and way out.

Paying £6 for a credit score is not wise as a lot of information such as income is not on there, but do know your credit score of 471 you seriously have work to do.

Unfortunately now your cap 1 card is now in default this will stay on your credit report for 6 years from date of default, which will make your chances of getting future credit at low interest rates very hard if not impossible.

You can always try a sygma card as their credit scoring is not as strict as a mainstream lender.

Doesn't work like that. Nice rant though :)
