  • Two of the 3 Barry stores now have closing posters on them. With Philip Saunders also returning to Barry they now have some competition too.

  • Ha Ha Philip Saunders returned to Barry about 2 weeks ago, back in the same site as before near Waitrose, I got some nice things there for Christmas for the kiddies.

Also worth checking out is the Brays sweet factory next to the Philip Saunders warehouse where you can watch the factory workers making the sweets through the viewing pane and you can also purchase sweets for £1 a bag.

  • Philip Saunders say they sell branded goods cheap not cheap goods, at the moment they have alot of Christmas decorations/lights etc. They also sell toys/white goods that Argos sell but cheaper and have the price comparisons on the items. I always find that if I see the item it is best to get it there and then because the stock tends to move very quickly.

BTW Hyper value now have 70% off their Halloween costumes.

yeah thomas is good but it's dead expensive isn't it? i haven't been on it, but friends of mine have said it's a bit of a rip off

Lisa76 it was quite expensive but I won tickets with the Barry and District so it was a nice freebie.

  • Thanks pavlos - the building quotes varied by up to £25k but after all our searching we discovered our builder in the most unlikely of places ....... the school playground ! it's going to take 6 months to build but it will be superb when it is done. The views from my bedroom window over to the coast will be fab.

Here is the address for Philip Saunders:

    Phillip Saunders Warehouse
Unit 5, Palmers Vale Business Centre, Palmerston Rd, Barry, South Glamorgan CF63 2XA - tel no 01446 421100 .

Before you set out check their opening days as they are not open every day. I am carp at giving directions but if you do a search on yell their map will point you in the right direction

  • Hyper value is great, you always find something you need, even if you didn't know you needed it before you went in.

In respect of Barry Island, a lot of work has been done to the promenade and it is now very nice. As long as the beach is kept clean it is beautiful. It has a lot of potential. I know I will probably be unpopular in my opinion, but I think they should demolish the funfair, hyper value, the nightclub and all the tatty shops and the pub in that central area. It lowers the tone. Housing wouldn't be bad but extending the park area with possibly a smart, well kept, play area would be great. More litter bins which are emptied regularly. IMHO it would make the area much classier and attract money in a different way. Maybe a few nicer shops and restaurants and pubs. (Crikey, I didn't mean to make this thread into one about Barry Island, sorry! Got carried away.)
