Hyper value closing stores

I was reading yesterday in the Echo that Hyper value are closing some of their stores. In Barry I think the High Street store and the Barry Island one is closing. Although the article said that the Hyper Value warehouse at Ty Verlon will remain open.
I know sometimes people say it's tat but I've had some cheap and cheerful bargains there too. Then of course the funfair is under question as that had erratic opening times this summer but is operated by the same people.
Then KR's nightclub is again the same people, I went to a hen night there recently and it was only a third full.
If all these business fail it could be disastrous for Barry Island and the people who work for the Hyper Value organisation as well as local businesses. I hope that they find some sort of financial solution to their troubles which doesn't mean laying off all their staff.

hi.. welshy....hypa value have been around for quite a long time now....i think i am right in saying that they were one of the first cheap shops...
i have noticed the hypa value in llansamlet is really quiet becuase of the road works and traffic diversion....
yes there is some poo items... but i have noticed over the years that it has got better....and hypa value has come to my rescue at christmas time a few times with the colouring.. and reading books etc.....for the stocking fillers...
maybe times are a changing in barry.....what would happen to the site.. if these places close
prob.. another supermarket.. or shop complex.... that are popping up everywhere..
but lets face it everyone knows barry for the fair etc...
and i havent been there for years...Work to live= not live to work0 -
the one on high street barry is like an old church buildingLike what I said? click thanks!:rotfl: :rotfl:

Hmm, i expect this dates me but last time i was in Barry there was a big steam engine scrapyard for kids to play on
suspect the H&S police will have got there by now0 -
it would be a shame to see hyper value go, the quality of there stuff has got much better over the yearsknow thyselfNid wy'n gofyn bywyd moethus...0

i though there were plans to demolish the fairground for houses - thought my mum mentioned that a few months ago. a damn shame if you ask me i think a bit of investment and some new rides and the place could thrive again.
i don't go into hyper much, but i would miss it, because it's one of those places that you know will have something when you need it0 -

glad my youngest dont read these posts... other wise he will want me to take him there..to see if the trains are still there... he would prob.. want me to buy him one... he's........maaaaaaaaaaaddd on his steam trains.... big or small........had to all the way to york to the national train museum.... just for him to see the mallard... and the flying scotsman... which was in pieces liturally.. as it is having a major overhaul....
sorry going off thread now......
it will be a pitty if the fair does go....Work to live= not live to work0 -
Yes it would be a shame if it did go, the fairground has been the main attraction apart from "dodging the log" in the water ! I still find it odd to see the old Butlins camp demolished and new houses on the site. I spent many good days there as a day tripper.
As for the steam engines well some railway enthusiasts restored part of the line and some of the engines and they run a Ghost train, The Santa Express and the Easter bunny steam train rides throughout the year. Even the "real" Thomas the Tank engine visits Barry for short train rides, my son absolutely loved it too.

yeah thomas is good but it's dead expensive isn't it? i haven't been on it, but friends of mine have said it's a bit of a rip off
i hate seeing butlins demolished, my mum used to work there before i was born but she knew the people on the gate, so we'd often go there for a free day out, and it was great fun0 -
I love Hypervalue - there are bargains to be had. Their kids craft stuff is fab. They've closed the one in Swansea town centre (no loss as it was a dump of a store) but also the one in Llanelli which was one of the best round here
I hope they don't go under0 -
Hypervalue in Canton had closing down posters when we there a few weeks ago.
I love Hypervalue as you never know what to expect!!!!0
