Which iphone?
Hi I have been looking into purchasing a sim free iphone for a while now but I can't make my mind up which version to go for - 3GS or 4.
On the surface it is an obvious answer - go for the iphone 4 because its a newer product however I am slightly put off by the following -the reported antenna problems and the use of a micro sim, as not only would I be required to pay T-mobile £10 for a micro sim but then I would only be able to use the iphone 4 because none of my 'spare' phones fit this type of sim card. Also with regards to the sim card if I did decide the iphone wasn't for me and sent it back to Apple for a refund then I would be stuck with a micro sim and non-micro sim phone!
The things that put me off the 3GS are - the smaller battery life than the iphone 4, only the 8GB version is available on the Apple store and its only £80 cheaper! It feels a bit wrong to be purchasing such an old product.
Any advice on this decision would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance

First I'm biased I have a Iphone 4.
Dropped called / bad antenna. To be perfectly honest yes the iphone drops calls.
Where I live, we have a 3 story town house and between us and the Voda mast is a hill and a 5 story block of flats. The top floor has good reception, but bottom lousy. I get poor call quality on the ground floor and the occasional drop.
However in comparison my prior Sony Xperia X1 *NEVER* reliably got a signal on the ground floor, it was constantly searching, it may get one bar then drop off. The radio in the X1 was truly pants, and the iPhone beats it by miles.
Not if I got another phone with a much better antenna would I see a difference, probably, but for me the Iphone 4 is an improvement on my prior phone, poor antenna or not.
MicroSim, You can cut down your existing card, there are templates on the web, and once done many phone stores can sell you a adapter toi use in a standard phone. I went back into the vodafone shop and they gave me one free, so I can use the sim in a non iphone phone when overseas. Battery life is OK on the iPhone I get a day and a half usually and I have an old basic motorola that goes away with us as it can last 4-5 days on a charge, more than enough for us to turn it on an hour or so each day and leave it in case someone wents to get hold of us. It also does not do web access so no nasty suprise bills when we get home.0 -
Hi thanks for the speedy reply!
I don't think T-mobile are that generous with offering out freebies such as a micro sim tool. lol.
If the i phone 4 took a normal sim card then I wouldn't be thinking twice over my choice.0 -

It's little bit of plastic. They start at 99p on Ebay. I doublt any provider would say no.
Vodafone gave me one without asking to see my phone or contract detaisl so you probably could blag one from any network.0 -
I have an iphone 4 and I love mine! Ive never had a dropped call or signal problem0

You can also get a converter to use your micro sim in "proper" phones.0

I have an iphone 3GS and my bro in law has the iphone 4 and if I could choose I would plump for the iphone 4.
Like the guys say you can cut your existing sim card with a stanley and a template then pick an adapter up from either ebay or a stall for about a pound to use in other handsets.
I'm sure if you played hell with T-Mobile they'd probably wave the £10 fee?
The battery lasts longer, the screen is the best damn thing I've ever seen on a device and the camera is absolutely spot on!
You may not be much of a photgrapher but I have found myself using the camera on my iphone much more than my other handsets with 'better' camera's.
Iphone 4 all the way ya lucky ******* ha haTighter than a gnats ****0 -
iphone 4 - should be no hesitation.
Cut your sim down to size. If you do it wrong then you pay the £10 to ge the proper one from your network.
Ebay and buy a sim adapter whcih will allow you to put your micro sim (either your cut down version or the network one) back into a full size sim phone. Cost is sub £2
I cut my sim down with help of a youtube video which had a link to a template to print and stick your sim to, then you just mark and cut. Simples.
Signal is not an issue
I paid £600 to buy a new one from apple and sold my 3gs to go towards it. Its so much better!0 -

Hi I noticed you have said that you paid Apple £600 for an iphone 4, have they actually come down in price as they are now £499?0 -
