    Hi everyone
As per the malware 'thread' I'm going to back up my documents, photos etc first before continuing to get rid. I've heard of the proxy thing before so will have a look at that later. I will report back / put in a log as soon as I can.

Well I didn't think I was capable of it, but when I went to back up onto a flash drive stick I managed to put the USB in upside down, without even force!!!

The computer promptly blew out and now won't start up longer than 20 seconds max.

I called a laptop repairer and he said it sounds like I blew the mobo and that financially it's probably not worth trying to repair it (a 2 yr old advent) and it would cost me £160 plus vat plus his time to repair. :o

Plus it did have that worm thing on it I was going to have to try hard to get off the computer with no guarantees it would work.

So I have reserved a new computer from Comet, its an ASUS X52F-EX486V which i saw recommended on another thread here for £399 - an expensive lesson to learn....

    :o I know.

PC world seems to have jacked up their prices terribly though and I hate their customer service even worse.

    I am open to suggestions.....

You misunderstand, I really wasn't suggesting that PCW/DSG was a better alternative!
They are possibly the worst retailers in the UK and almost anywhere else would be a better alternative.
Maybe John Lewis if you want advice, or order online from the manufacturer if not.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
