Moon phases

I have been to a few biodynamic gardens and have been very impressed with the results. Not done it myself but you can buy a growing calender here
It covers all the moon phases as well as root and flower times, £10 ish and you get a booklet giving more comprehensive info about lunar planting and biodynamics.Greyer by the minute - Older by the hour - Wiser by the day0 -
I have dabbled with gardening by the moon and i would like to do more but sometimes things have to be done when I have the time to do them or the weather is co-operating - and even then I struggle to get it all done at the right time!Jan 2011 GC £300/£150.79 (2 adults, 2 teens, working dog, includes food/cleaning/toiletries)0

The earth `inhales` and `exhales.`
Oh dear.
I`m sure farmers would use this system if it increased plant yields significantly. I note also that they don`t quote any controlled trials. I also note, unsurprisingly, that they are flogging stuff.Freedom is the freedom to say that 2+2 = 4 (George Orwell, 1984).

I've not looked at this idea, but could it be something to do with the extra light you get at full moon? Planting seeds that germinate best in the light at the full, and those that like the dark at the new moon etc?If I'm over the hill, where was the top?0

Yes, and maybe they get extra light from the fairies dancing about.Freedom is the freedom to say that 2+2 = 4 (George Orwell, 1984).

Nothing wrong with trying it. I know a few people that swear it works really well.
I can't quite get my head round it and I tend to be a very practical person, if I can't see if (or how) it works, or exists, then I don't believe in it.
Planting by the moon, I can sort of see the practicality in, we all know the tides are made by the pull of the moon and there are well documented cases of the moon causing behavioural changes in animals (I include humans under animals).
But when they start talking about certain days being good for planting/moving etc certain types of seeds/plants, my interest starts to wane, as my practical side tells me, this must be nonsense.
However I haven't tried it, I'm not organised enough to be sowing certain seeds on certain days. It gets done when I have time.
Also I believe there are a couple of different systems, which disagree with each other about timings.Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0 -

I didn't know fairies glowed in the dark - all these years, and I thought they were fireflies dancing at the bottom of the garden! If I'm over the hill, where was the top?0 -
gardening is simple. i dont see why some people want to overcomplicate it.Freedom is the freedom to say that 2+2 = 4 (George Orwell, 1984).

The practical part of me agrees is probably hogwash, but the part of me seeking to reconnect with ''the natural world'' thinks this is quite a nice way to further that. The greater part of me is horendousy disorganised and behind schedule and is grateful when anything gets done roughly at the right time.....0 -
