Greyhounds and lurchers sleep a lot, but only after having been taken for a good run. They don't bark, and sleep when I'm at work and make ideal pets. I have two and they keep me fit with plenty of long country walks. There are so many desperately in need of homes.

I have recently become involved in wanting to rescue dogs and have found a couple of really good sites.

Greyhound Gap and Lurcher Link are 2 charities I've recently looked at which are involved in fostering/adopting unwanted dogs. They rescue dogs who are about to be put to sleep, not just greyhounds or lurchers.

They always need donations, but also are desperate for fosterers, or people to help transport dogs from dog pounds where they're about to be put to sleep to other areas of the country where rescue places are available.

Therefore, you can help save canine lives without necessarily spending money!

And if you look at Rochdale Dog Rescue - they directly save dogs who are about to be put to sleep in dog pounds - you can 'sponsor a poundie' to save its life - but looking at the dogs who are about to be put to sleep after 7 days if they're not claimed - always breaks my heart!

    Here is their website:

fanntasiefish. The site has only started up this week, but they've been doing a lot of research for at least a few months.
It's pretty good, but with anything, it's only as good as the information they have, some of which is out of date, as the information produced is out of date.

    Hi,
From what I read they've worked on it for a year and a half, and I'm not sure it matters so much that the info is out of date. Charities of the size they're looking at (quarter of a million pounds spend upwards) don't change too much over time and in any case the main thing they're judging the charities by is how transparent they are. They have rated 500, mostly household names, and there's a ton of other stuff there about charities that I haven't seen anywhere else. I rate it ;)
